All my books and apps say left side is best. But I am a right side sleeper ...
I've been trying to train myself to sleep on the left and it is so uncomfortable I get almost no sleep !
I've got an island of pillows in my bed but no matter how I arrange them, they just don't make left side sleeping comfortable...I can't figure out what the problem is...
What are you doing at night to sleep ? Please share , thanks !
Re: How are you ladies sleeping?
I'm a flopper, I'm all over the place. I've never been a stomach sleeper but other than that I hit every position. I usually start out on my back with a pillow tiliting me so I'm not completely flat.
Does anyone know why the left side is considered the best?

I'm on my left side, I used to love sleeping on my right pre pregnancy but when I roll over to that side, he will starting moving & kicking soon so back to the left side I go. I try to sleep on my back but tilted to the side as well.
I heard sleeping on the left side is best because it's the side where your heart is & something to do with better flow.
Because we're fancy like that.
i've always been a left side sleeper, but that has changed in pregnancy.
i sleep on my right side a lot now too, and sometimes i wake up in the night and i'm on my back. sometimes my hips just need a break!

I'm not sleeping very well either. I'm a tummy sleeper and haven't been able to sleep on my tummy for a very long time now. I've been rotating between sides - whichever is comfortable at the time.
However, I've been having horrible legs cramps and my back has been killing me during the night. The last couple of days I find myself wide awake at 4:30, so I get up and then find myself falling back to sleep on the couch and the back of the couch is my back support.

I read that sleeping on your back is bad because the weigh of your uterus puts pressure on the vena cava the main artery that brings blood back and forth.
But I also read that the vena cava runs on the right side of your body so that's why it's better to sleep on your left side...
Poor T , that has got to suck! You'll be meeting Brielle very soon and then hopefully you can get some of your sleep back !
I have a big chair in my room , it's kind of a arm chair/loveseat combo.. maybe I should try sleeping in that
When I hit 22-25 weeks I began having difficulty finding a position to sleep in. I'd wake up several times a night (not only to pee) but with sore hips and back. I started using a longer pillow in between my legs and tried my left side but nothing worked. I'm naturally a left side sleeper so I thought it would be easy but nope. I seem to be sleeping better these last few weeks but I can't say its completely better. I just keep tossing until I get into a comfy position.
Oh and there are certain positions where if I lay that way, the baby starts kicking up a storm so it makes me feel like I'm smashing him so I have to change sides.
IUI#2 - 01/07/09 = BFP!!! Twins!! Pre-term labor 20 weeks

I am a hot mess flipping from any angle that works! Left side is the most comfy but I flip ALL NIGHT LONG!
Try sleeping past 3:30am however is not happening, Im SO tired
I slept on my left side anyway so it wasn't a problem for me, but around 20something weeks I had to get a Snoogle because my hips and back were killing me. Halfway through the night I ende up propping myself up somewhat and sleeping on my back until that gets irritating, then it's back to my side.
For whoever asked about why the left side-my pregnancy book says our main artery is on the right and laying on it constricts blood flow. Sleeping on my right side doesn't feel good anyway.
TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11
TTC #2 off and on since 7/12
I bought a body pillow and its just another thing to through around as I toss and turn all night. I'm so freakin' tired.
I was no help at all, but if you figure something out, let us know!
The thing with the left side is that your vena cava (largest vein in your body) runs down your abdomen (drains blood from all your major organs) and if you look at a picture, it leans more towards the right.
So, by lying left you reduce the weight on it.
Honestly, I flip from side to side and sometimes on my back is the only thing that feels good. I don't get short of breath or dizzy, so I am doubtful it's causing much harm. I am not sure how to control I don't sleep on my back - I go to sleep on my side, but I wake up on my back sometimes.
Does anyone else get the 0330-0400 random wake up? I keep waking up then for no reason, and I am WIDE awake after that. Sucks.
