I have 2 friends with LOs that are within 3 weeks of DD. They use the same pediatrician. Both said that at their recent appointments, as soon as their babies got into the exam room, they realized where they were and started crying. Their ped gives vax's in 2 shots each time, plus the live vaccine, and does it himself.
For me, DD goes to the ped and smiles and is her usual self. She never sees the shot coming. Our ped gives vax's in 1 shot and delays the live ones. Also, a nurse gives the shot and they switch who it is. We are also a month behind and have gone for 2 sick visits.
SO - I'm wondering if the difference in their reactions is because there are so many other differences or if it has to do with their pediatrician specifically.
Does your LO cry when you go for a well visit before the shot?
Re: does LO recognize pedi?
Both of my kids go to the same pedi (obviously, lol) and my pedi also administers vaccines in the same fashion as yours. At 6 months old, my DS did not recognize the pedi but my DD did. I'm guessing some babies are just more aware at that age than others.
My DS never cries initially. He knows the point in the appointment when the shots are coming, and that's when he starts crying. However, he;s been to the pedi for a lot of appointments that werent for him, so the sight of the pedi isnt scary to him.
I agree! That's part of why I was asking. I'm wondering if my kid just hasn't learned the association or if it's something specific to that dr.
MrsLynneD - Your LO doesn't cry when he gets shots?? That's awesome. Does he scream his head off a few hours after you get home? If not, can he please give his secrets to my daughter?
