Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

8 weeks 4 days - no heartbeats

Today my husband and I had a follow up ultrasound to our last one we had done at 6 weeks 4 days. There were no heartbeats to be found today. The gestational sac measured 8 weeks so the doctor felt this was a recent development. We scheduled a d&c for Thursday morning. I think that is the right decision but I'm really unsure. I've read a lot of people will wait to ensure the diagnosis. The heartbeats at 6 weeks 4 days were 95 and 121, so it seems to me that if there were hb's today they should have been able to find them.

We were on vacation all last week and the doctor had called on Wednesday to tell me I had failed my sugar test so she thought I may have been borderline diabetic pre-pregnancy.

I am doing okay with this news, I look at it as an opportunity to  keep working on myself, getting into better shape and also to figure out what is going on with my blood sugar. I'd like to be in the best possible shape before we get pregnant again.

I am sorry for your loss.

You seem to be handling it better than I did.  Just know that this board is a great place to come to if you do need to vent.

I too would like to get into better shape if we decide to try again.

  • Juelsr - I am so sorry for your loss too.

My pregnancy has been a turbulent roller coaster for several weeks now. I am 37 years old, I had pre-existing high blood pressure and was not on pregnancy safe medication for that condition. Once the doctor confirmed the pregnancy they finally changed my blood pressure meds.

When I was first put on the blood pressure meds a year and a half ago I had called the ob/gyn before starting it, because it was not a pregnancy safe type. They told me to start it and if I found out I was pregnant call them and they'd change it. I don't think that was the best approach in retrospect.

At 6 weeks 4 days we found out we had twins, but they couldn't see a membrane between the two of them, which is why we had the follow up today. Then I failed the sugar test and its probable I was diabetic pre-pregnancy.

I am very disappointed, but with my age, the blood pressure and then the sugar test results and twins I was just prepared for the worst as sad as that is:(

I stopped my b/c pills a year and a half ago, but May was the first cycle that I charted and used OPK's and we got pregnant right away. I'm optimistic we can do it again. Now I'm on pregnancy safe blood pressure meds and I have the chance to find out what's going on with the diabetic situation.

I am so sorry for the loss of your twins.  I am 36 with sugar issues as well, and once i'm physically recovered from all this, my plan is to start working out in the mornings to get into shape for when we're ready to try again.  I'll probably take a few months off, but that age thing is always in the back of my mind.  Best wishes to you, hang in there.  ((hugs))

  • Ella.Mabel - I am so sorry for your loss as well. Did you have sugar issues prior to your pregnancy or did you find out during? I contacted my primary care physician's office this morning to set up an appointment for after my procedure and the nurse checked my records from February and I was tested for diabetes at that time and negative. She runs my bloodwork every 6 months so I was due to have it done in August. I'm not sure if this is a new development in my chemistry or a very unusual early side effect of my pregnancy. I'm anxious to figure it out.

Prior to becoming pregnant I was taking a Zumba class two times a week for two months and had lost weight and was seeing a lot of positive changes, so I at least look forward to resuming that activity.
