Where did you get your crib mattress?

My understanding is they're all pretty much the same... so which retailer do you think has the best deal?

Re: Where did you get your crib mattress?

  • I got mine from diapers.com.  No tax to my state, free 2-day shipping, free return shipping if it doesn't work out, and you can return items within 365 days.

  • amazon. i got the colgate clasica 1 and it was basically the same price everywhere, but amazon had free 2 day shipping and it actually arrived in 1 day.

also - i'm not sure if you're saying you've heard all crib mattresses are the same? but they're really not... we had a different one before the colgate and even though it said it was standard size, it was too narrow and there were gaps between the mattress and the rails. and the colgate is much firmer and DS gets a MUCH better sleep on it.

This. I tried 2 standard-sized coil mattresses (one was free and one was given to us) in our standard crib and neither fit. Come to find out that foam mattresses are a much better fit, especially in the corners, because they are cut at a 90 degree angle whereas the coil mattresses have rounded corners. Cribs are heavily regulated, while mattresses are not, so there can be size discrepancies between several "standard" size mattresses.

We bought our Colgate Classica II mattress from Buy Buy Baby and were able to use both a 20% off coupon and a $5 off coupon and got it for $115.

  • I decided on the Midnight Slumber Little Dreamer dual sided foam and ordered it from Smart Mamas.  It was cheaper than Amazon.  Free shipping.  No sales tax.  They just don't have the best return policy (charge a restocking fee), but I didn't think it would need to be returned so was okay with taking that risk.

  • Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • Crib Mattresses are kinda my "research project of the week". I too disagree when you say "they're pretty much the same". I've read several articles on how better mattresses reduce SIDS and such.

I have a list of the top 5 (from one website at least). The best deal out of that I can find is the Serta Nightstar Extra Firm at Target. It retails for $79.99.

However, if you do believe that all mattresses are the same I've seen a few at Wal-Mart for around the $40-$50 range.

  • I bought it over a year ago off of Albee Baby - and that was when you could still get the 20% off deal - so it was the best deal around.

We got the Colgate Classica I - which is an amazing mattress and well worth the cost.  Not all are equal!

  • We bought the Davinci Emily II mattress.  Its double sided, one side for infants and the other for toddlers.  The crib we have is the Baby Mod Lilly, same as Davinci Emily, and I had read you have to get the mattress made for the crib otherwise its too small.  Even the crib is marked with specific dimensions for the mattress.

  • I got my organic mattress from Costco (online).  They had the best price for the type I wanted and with my membership I get a % back later in the year.

Diapers.com is also awesome, but they were more expensive than Costco and also charge sales tax in my state (boo). As does Amazon.

  • I don?t think all mattresses are the same ? there are several types. I have coil dual support baby crib mattress from Davinci. One side provides extra firm orthopedic support. The other side is more cushioned and is more suitable for an active toddler. It meets all fire safety requirements and is hypoallergenic. I bought it for just over $100.00 online.
