Transition to crib or transition not swaddling first

DD is still in RNP next to my bed, I am wanting to transition her to her crib but don't know if I should transition there while she is still being swaddled or wait until after transitioning her to un swaddled sleeping. She is starting to roll onto her side and so I think she is going to start rolling soon making the need to de-swaddle soon. She is used to sleeping in these cozy places (RNP & swing mainly) and we have tried naps in her crib, which only get in a 30 min nap as opposed to 2.5 hrs. in her swing or RNP. Thoughts and suggestions?

Re: Transition to crib or transition not swaddling first

  • We decided to transition to not swaddling first.  We just felt like that was the easier transition to start with and so far it's worked out great.  Now we just have to tackle the crib!  GL!

  • I would do both at the same time bc I'm mean and I think the crib will be the hardest. But if you want to start with the swaddling, you can start with one arm out then the other, then the torso, etc. But I would do it in the crib, so once the swaddling is done, she's used to the crib, too. GL!

We ditched the swaddle first and it worked for us! GL!

  • We moved her into her crib at 2 months and now she is moved in and sleeping unswaddled at 3 months. It worked perfectly!
  • We just moved him to his crib this week but we are still swaddling.  He gets very upset when he is not swaddled so for us it was crib and in about a month swaddle.

  • It's up to you; I don't think there is a best way.  We transitioned to the crib first (at 4 months old). A month later, we took the swaddle away cold turkey. Worked perfectly for us. Good luck!

  • I am having the exact same experience as you -- we decided to break the swaddle habit first because I'm scared she will roll.  So far we have alternated one arm out since Friday night with no issues!  I figure, since the four month wakeful has messed with her sleep anyway, might as well do it now.

  • We did both at the same time, just before he turned 3 months.  I was shocked how well it went!  Good luck!

We did the crib first, but I don't think it really matters once they're 3 months old. Whichever one you feel like tackling first.

  • We did de-swaddling first cold turkey which worked well for us. About to tackle the crib this week. Hope it goes well!

  • Thanks everyone! I only work 2 days a week so I think we are going to try something tomorrow night so if neither DD or I sleep we can nap the next day, then we have a full four nights to keep trying before I really need the sleep. I can also get H to help out Fri and Sat night if needed. Wish us luck!!
