... because mine hates them. I've tried going through a few designed for babies (bright contrasting colours, etc) and he'll have none of it. Starts crying a page or two in.
I see that its a part of a lot of your bedtime routines - does your LO actually look at the pages/enjoy books already?
As a teacher, I'm having trouble dealing with this... it's something I know will become part of our bedtime routine when he's older - I just haven't included it yet because it makes him upset.
Tell me about your LO and books (second time moms welcome!)
Re: Does your baby actually look at/enjoy books?
Oh this makes me feel better!
Our pedi said it doesn't matter what you read to LO, just read to them. We read Eric Carle books. Some nights DD looks at the pictures, but most the time she just snuggles while we read.

I dont show the pictures to her. Right now I read to while she is taking her last bottle. I think she just likes the sound of me reading. I am a teacher also so I use a lot of voice when I read.
I dont think it matters if they interested now, it just needs to be part of the routine. You cant wait till they are 9 months and then try to read at night, they wont get it.

Some days DD shows interest in books and others not so much. She usually enjoys number counting books. It could be the way I count and the tone of my voice but that seems to get the most of her attention.
We mostly read during the day. When she is older I hope to add it to the nightly bedtime routine.
Hmm, maybe I should go back to reading him the Harry Potter books like I did when I was pregnant
Yep, tonight I read DD Water for Elephants.....she loved it and fell asleep listening to it.
DS doesn't hate being read to but he doesn't get into it either. Or at least he doesn't get into the baby books. If I just read something random aloud, that can be very soothing, especially after a bottle. And he will sometimes enjoy staring at a particular page of a baby book while laying on his back with it propped up next to him. He'll start gurgling at it.
I have the best luck keeping his attention with poetry and during the day. Not sure why.
I'm a librarian, so I can also relate to really finding this important, but there's just so much novelty we're all trying to fit in, parents and babies both. Trying to not worry about it.
She doesn't seem to look at the books but does enjoy being read to.
Our 7-year old reads sometimes and she loves that. She usually doesn't make it through the entire book before she gets distracted, but I figure starting early will help her interest.
I started reading to my 7-year old as soon as she was placed in my home and she still loves us to read to her, even though she needs the practice.
Our LO loves books! If she is fussy I will read to her from whatever book I am currently reading (accents and all haha) and she calms right down. Last week I was reading from an Italian Lonely Planet book and she LOVED that!
She loves storytime too, she looks at the pictures of any book and will sit there happily as we read to her. We try to read to her at least once a day. Dr. Seuss is one of her favourites.
