Britax Advocate-New w/tags - $225, anyone interested?

I've got an Advocate that we bought on reflex to try to keep Cooper RFing a bit longer.  Well, before it even arrived he had a massive flip out on a trip and we turned him.  Long story short, it just didn't seem financially prudent to keep such an expensive seat as an extra and it would cost quite a bit to return it.

I bought it from CSN,com, here is the link.  Instead of kissing some cash goodbye paying for return shipping I'd rather sell it to a Nestie for a good deal if anyone is interested.

I'll be in Fairfield this week (I think through Sun.) so it will be available for pick up there or I could meet up with someone (especially if we could come up with a good play date spot).

  • does it not work forward facing? i'm confused why you can't still use it with cooper? I'm interested, but I don't plan on extended rear facing, with dylan.

You can use it FF. We already had/have both the boys in Boulevards, with 35 pound RFing limits, and the Advocate has the 40 pound RFing limit (and 70 pound FF) and Cooper had this massive growth spurt and he hit 35 pounds right before he turned 2.  We had kept Andrew RFing until he was 30 months and I just had this expectation that we'd be keeping Cooper RFing for a long time (he seriously went from 27 pounds to 35 in 3 months and now he hasn't gained another pound in the last 6 months) and I just had a total knee jerk reaction to having to turn him before I expected and bought a carseat that I really shouldn't have.

We totally could keep it and use it FF but we don't *need* it.  If I kept it we would end up using it as an extra seat, probably to be keep in one of the Grandparents cars and really we need two for that and it's not a smart financial decision to have two Britax seatsa as "extras".

The seat still has the tags on it, the boys did turn box into a toy but the seat has never been used.

  • so its a pricey seat because the weight limit is high rf? that makes sense. I still have D in the bucket seat, and no motivation to get another car seat!

J, you crack me up.  I totally get everything your wrote and it totally sounds like all your mama instincts (extended rear facing + deals!) collided to the detriment of your wallet. ;)

We had to buy two FF seats for DS at the same time because he had a crazy crazy growth spurt and wow.  Ouch.  I thought he'd stay in the First Years convertible for a long long time since it's so big but then one was in an accident and it didn't make any sense to get another convertible, and I just noticed last week that he's looking big in the other one (in Gramma's car) too!  Hope Coop can stay in his seat for a long time.

Yeah the weight limits are a big part of the high price, plus the Britax seats used to be the only ones with the side impact protection (it's why we bought the Boulevard when Andrew was little because it was the only one that offered that feature).  In pictures it's hard to see the difference between the Boulevard and Advocate but the Advocate actually has a stronger side impact feature and this may be true of all the new ones but we don't have it on the Boulevards, to adjust the buckles as they get taller all you have to do it squeeze a handle on the top of the seat and just lift it up.  It's soooo convenient.

If D's happy in the bucket "they" say it's always safer to keep them in it as long as they fit.  Plus if you don't need it right now I can understand not wanting to spend the money.  But if you decide you want it I can certainly bring it down, and if you don't but you're up for a playdate this week that would be fun too!
