Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Speaking up STTN...who elses LO, have stopped STTN?

DD has been GREAT at STTN for a few months.  Occasionally she will wake up once and have a bottle and go back out.  But for the past week, she has consistantly done this.  She has always wimpered a little through the night, but I just seem to know the difference between a whimper where she will fall back to sleep on her own and a cry of i am hungry.  But now i am wondering if this past week is her testing me to see if i will come feed her.  Do I continue to feed her or should I try to hold her off.  I usually wait about 10 min before i go up to make sure she is not falling back to sleep.  HELP!

  • DD was STTN from months 5-7, at 7 months she went through a growth spurt and needed to eat at night.  We haven't gotten rid of that night feeding still.  Sleep

  • Our Lo is 9 months and she has stopped STTN but only for a bottle and then back to bed. Bedtime is 9 to 9.30 and she will wake anytime from 3.30am to 6.30am for a 4-6 oz bottle. I know she's hungry because she will eat again when she wakes for the day and eat 4-6oz also! I say let her eat it could just be a growth spurt but I'm not too strick about bedtime stuff.
  • Jack stopped STTN when he got these damn teeth a few weeks ago. Now his sleep as gone to shiit. We are waiting until all our summer trips are over to sleep train.

  • Ok. Thanks guys.  I felt like I should trust my mama's intuition on her cry and continue to go up and feed her, but I had a few people tell me I should let her cry and that she is probably just testing me to see if i would come to her.

According to everything I've read/talked to the pedi about, MOST babies should be able to STTN without eating at this age and may be eating out of habit.  We were told to continue feeding for true medical reasons.  That being said, I wouldn't have listened had I been told to stop feeding her.  When I go get her in the night, I can hear her belly growling, I just don't think it's fair to her to make her suffer through that.  Trust your instincts.

Aww thanks, LB! Is your pic new? I haven't seen you in a while, so maybe not. Either way, Ash is adorable as usual!

  • DD STTN sometime betwen 3 and 4 mos and was very consistent until she started teething.  She was bad there for awhile - at least a few nights a week she would be up in the middle of the night.  Now, she has gone back to only occasional lapses even though I think she is still having mega teeth issues.

My biggest issue now is getting her to go to sleep at night.  Once she is out, she is usually good for the night - the problem is getting her there.  She used to be so easy - she would go right out - now - not so much.

  • J STTN from 2-3 months pretty much every night.  We were in the midst of moving at the time, so it was like this amazing gift from Baby Jesus.

He has not STTN since, not even close actually.  He averages 5 times a night.

  • My baby STTN from 2-6 months. At 6 months she started waking 3-4 times a night. She wakes every 2-3.5 hours. I am surprised I am doing so well after 3 months of this. We bedshare and she nurses back to sleep quickly. I feel like she will never STTN again though.

  • I wouldn't feed a 10 month old in the middle of the night, especially if they were STTN before.  They will try to throw you a monkey wrench but you need to stay consistent.
