evan is transitioning :/ questions...

So bittersweet but Evan is thisclose to walking so they are starting to transition him to the next room up.

They want us to start transitioning him to a sippy cup. I think this is super early for him but maybe I am crazy. When did your LO go to sippy cup?

Also, Evan is almost 10 months old...what do you send your kiddo to school for breakfast and lunch? Should I be doing something other than baby food right now? He only has 4 teeth.

I am sure I am overthinking this but I just want to do things at the right time.

Re: evan is transitioning :/ questions...

  • Olivia's been on a sippy cup for a couple of weeks. We figured the sooner the better. She's also been on table food for a while now. I would say since 8.5 or 9 months. She does have 9 teeth but when we started she only had 2 bottom teeth. Babies learn how to chew with their gums.I started early though. I did Baby Led Weaning and don't regret it one bit. If you want some more information on this let me know.

For breakfast we send waffles, toast, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit. Whatever I decide for that week. Lunch if leftover of what we have, mini sliders, lasagna, chicken spinach pasta, tacos, rice and beans etc. She normally though eats what they eat at DC except for the time its something she hates.

  • I would more info on the Baby led weaning! also, we have been giving him some table food but I guess I need to step it up!
  • I introduced a straw cup to Tracey at 6 months when she started solids. It was only water then though. We really skipped true "sippies"

  • We started a straw cup of water around 6 months.
  • We introduced the sippy around 9 months, but he didn't really take to it until around a year, or so.  He was pretty picky with sippies, and tended to take better to the Munchkin soft tops.

    Here's a link

Facebook me if you have any more questions. I think since you have been giving him some food already it will be an easy transition.

  • What does your pediatrician recommend with regards to cup migration and solid foods?

We did sippy cups about mid-way through the second baby room. So, that would have been about 9 mos. or so, I think?

The room transitions at our daycare went from infant to the crawler/early walker group. That's when they sit in highchairs and eat/work on eating food. I remember there being baby food, cheerios, fruit, frozen waffles, peas, canned green beans, cooked carrots, bananas, and small pieces of roasted chicken.

My second son is a late tooth person (we're still waiting for a couple of front teeth to get here at 21 months) - he still ate food like the things listed above while he was in the second baby room. His gums were strong enough to work these foods. I think he liked the cheerios when he was teething molars.

When they move to the toddler group, they begin sitting in chairs, drinking from cups, and eating with spoons.

I always followed the pedi's advice and listened to what the daycare people said too. Sometimes they know better than me, because they experience these transitions so often. For me, though, the doc is where I start/confirm what I'm thinking of doing.

Sounds like your little one is growing up. This is a very fun year, because they change so much and so many of their skills come online. What fun!

What does your pediatrician recommend with regards to cup migration and solid foods?  He says to wait until we have switched to whole milk (at 1 yr) and then switch. Currently, E will play with the sippy but doesn't really want to drink out of it. Although, he does know what to do with it.

I am very excited! But nervous too! Our daycare goes from the nursery to a toddler 1 room which is 11 months-18 months...but if they start walking sooner they move up then.

  • My husband and I been through this. It is hard to see them move; even harder to change routines. He'll do well, though.

For our  boys, it takes about 10 days for them to adjust to a change like this. It can be brutal during those 10 days - I hope your son has an easy time with it.

With our first, it was always more dramatic. With no. 2 it has been easier, because we know what to expect.

  • We started sippy cups at 10 months.  I sent one to daycare two days, the second day they said he had all of his milk out of it and for me not to send another bottle.  I still did bottles before bed because we realized he was slower to drink the milk, and we finally dropped that right around 12 months.

    We bought these.
