My milk supply is starting to go down. I've tried pumping to increase the amount I produce but that just seams to make it worse. I'm starting to come to the realization that he's going to have to be swiched to formula

. My neighbor gave me a can of Gerber Good Start Protect (the green can) just to see how he handles formula. He spit up more the first couple times but is keeping it down better but his poop is like a bright greenish color, much different from the yellow seedy looking kind from breastfeeding. Is this normal? And what kind of formula do other moms recomend?
Re: Switching from Breastmilk to formula...
Give you info on baby poop with pictures. I use a lot.

Also I use similac sensitive.
Are you sure it's not just one of those weeks when your supply has to realign with your LO's demand? You know those trying times come and go ... I've had troubles with it too, but it always fixes itself within days. I'd always do this: - get a lactation supporting tea (with fenel), - drink lots and lots of fluids during the day, - make sure I eat a lot of small meals during the day (after each BFing is the best), - try to relax as much as possible while breastfeeding (for me, reading a book or watching a favorite show works the best), - get lots of sleep (which can be hard if your LO doesn't sleep well throughout the night) and ... don't give up as long as your baby is healthy, happy and gains weight, there is no reason to give up on breastfeeding.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do, but I really hope you don't stop breastfeeding ... hugs.
PS: Pumping never worked for me and from what I hear, it doesn't work for many women ... For some women bfing their LO every 2 hours during the day works like a charm ...
have you tried fenugreek, mothers milk tea etc? i do about 50/50 bm/formula...i use enfamil infant formula.
We started the switch around 13 weeks. My son was eating 14 times a day and he was ALWAYS starving! I couldn't pump enough to keep up with him when I went back to work. I had wanted to EBF longer, but life happened. I am for whatever decision you need for your own body/LO/lifestyle. I had a tremendous amount of guilt around the switch and had a REALLY hard time mentally. I even went through thrush before i switched which was a pain..... but almost 7 weeks after the switch and the little guy is still alive and well and eating heartily, even a little less hungry! So don't let that guilt consume you.... when you're done, you're done.
We started him on GentleEase by Enfamil. He had a ton of tummy trauma with breastmilk so I was super nervous to start formula. He has done really well. His poo changed drastically from yellow and seedy to a mix of "army man" green to the seedy stuff. It is still a mix now. He is a happier, more satisfied baby these days.
