raw and puss on penis? NAPR

My son woke up this morning with RAW and slightly bloody skin on his penis and puss in the uretha! I have an appointment at 3:00, but now I'm a nervous wreck and it feels like the longest day! It looks BAD...like skin came off and the yuretha looks streched!

He has had dry skin a lot lately and I feel this should have been a warning sign I should have checked out, but I just put cornstarch and coconut oil on it thinking it was normal. I also stripped the CD just in case. It looked like regular dry skin and the pedi said if he was a bit red it was probably heat rash so I have been treating it like heat rash and dry skin.

On top of it all he is circumcised, something I have always beat myself over. I decided to leave it up to DH and since he is circumcised he automatically thought nothing of it. The thing is I think my DH would have done the researched and we could have decided together if I would have brought it up. But at the time I had never heard much about the anti circumcision debate and I did not think much of it. After research I feel like we did the wrong thing and now I am so worried something is wrong, maybe even due to that?

Has anyone heard of something like this?

Re: raw and puss on penis? NAPR

  • My DS is intact (not sure if that's relevant) and we are also doing cloth.  He would occasionally have times where is penis would get really dry (like, skin flaking off) and red/rashy looking.  Putting aquaphor/vaseline/some equivalent of that would help temporarily, but I finally switched detergents for the CDs and he's been fine ever since.  We were using Tide Original and switched to Purex Free&Clear.

GL at the doctors!  And don't beat yourself up about circumcising him.  It's done, and he is fine!  (And I doubt the current problem has anything to do with that). :)

  • What did the pedi say?

    BFP#1 "Watermelon" born 3/2011
    BFP#2 "Pumpkin" 7/14/12 ~ EDD 3/23/13 ~ Natural M/C 8/3/12 @ 7 weeks
    BFP#3 "Pineapple"  born 4/2013
    BFP#4 "Grapefruit" EDD 3/29/16
  • He somehow must have got  bug bite, that bug probably carried a disease so it got really infected. We are on antibotics and creme for 2 weeks, but it already looks better!
