I still feel bad putting Maggie down when she is awake! She is going to be 4 weeks tomorrow andI feel like I am abandoning her when I put her down. When will she start looking at the toys she has on her swing and bouncy seat? I feel so bad!!!!
my zachary will be 4 weeks on thursday, and i feel the SAME way!!! I usually wait untill he falls asleep to put him down. lol.... Sometimes zachary looks at the toys, and sometimes he doesnt. i dont think babies that young realize what theyre looking at though i dont have any suggestions, just wanted you to know youre not alone!
Don't feel bad. Everyone needs a little "me" time, including babies. As long as you respond to her in a timely manner I think it builds security, knowing that I'm okay alone, but mom will come when I need her. I don't think it is ever too early to start teaching our babies that they are autonomous and loved.
We must be the change we wish to see in the world.
so you mean just through out the day, not during sleep time? have you tried wearing her? she will be fine left in her bouncy (as long as she is not crying) but that way it may make you feel better.
DD started noticing the toys on her swing and mobile in her crib about 2 weeks ago. she'll be 10 weeks on wednesday.
Don't feel bad!! When you (if you) have more than one kid, you will be begging for this. To me, if a baby is not crying, that means they are happy. Having them get used to some alone time is a good thing esp if you are going back to work and they will be in a daycare/childcare setting.

Don't feel bad! No mom can hold and/or entertain their baby 24/7 forever -- sometimes we need to get stuff done! As for when babies start looking at the toys ... I am sure it depends, but my LO started taking a distinct interest in moving toys at exactly 4 weeks -- so you may be right there!. Prior to that, she's just sort of sit quietly listening to the music/feeling the bouncer vibrate ... but at 4 weeks, she started tracking the moving animals. Also, she has a mobile on her Snug-a-Bunny swing, and she started looking upwards at the birds/mirror consistently, at 4 weeks. I'll usually put her there for 10 minutes or so at a time while I brush my teeth or do the dishes ... I usually remove her once she sort of loses interest. She will usually look away from the toys, as if she's become tired of it.

DS hated the bouncy until about a week ago, and now he tolerates it for 10 minutes or so before he's ready to change positions. He likes his playmat and will kick the ball on it for 5-10 minutes. I think it's harder on ME to put him down than for him to be "alone." I love cuddling, but I know he needs to get to where he can be alone for a period of time (daycare, etc..).
At first, I sat by him while he played, and slowly seperated myself from him. I go to him when he starts crying. I do try to give him his pacifier first, but if he doesn't take it, I pick him up and cuddle. Sometimes the pacifier works, sometimes not...
