Birthing at Cedars - what prenatal classes do you recommend?

I really want a vaginal birth and would like to avoid the epidural. What classes do you recommend?

Honestly, I thought the classes at cedars sucked. My prenatal yoga class was more helpful.

That said, I ended up with every intervention I did not want.

I would recommend taking a class geared toward Natural Birth.  Here are a few options:

I know The Sanctuary offered a Natural Hospital Birth Class a while back.  You could email them to see if they plan to schedule another.

I've also heard great things about BINI Birth.

Bini is also doing a free workshop on Aug 4 from 7-9:30 on "Homebirth in the Hospital: Possibility of Myth"

    Good Luck!!!

The classes there aren't very good, but if you or your SO are wary of what to do with a newborn, I'd suggest the infant care class.  I hear the breastfeeding class is good too.  Infant CPR couldn't hurt either.  Oh, and definitely take the maternity ward tour.   I don't think anything they offer is specifically geared toward natural birth, unfortunately.  The prepared childbirth class has turned out to be an amalgamation of what I read in 2-3 books on childbirth, so you can skip that if you've been reading.

If you want a vaginal delivery, hope that you start contracting before your water breaks and that your baby is in the proper position.  If that fails, all isn't lost.  My friend who delivered there recently said they don't force interventions on you.

     Good luck!

If you want a natural birth I would recommend Hypnobabies.I my self had a great birth and would do it again. I'm planing a home birth next.

I gave birth at cedars in March and took a hypnobabies for my prenatal classes. LOVED THEM!!!! Just know going in your birth team HAS TO be on the same page. I had a plan in my head of how it was going to go while my baby had an entirely different plan. You have to be prepared for it all and make sure your OB is on the same page. I found out the hard way that my OB was NOT on the same page and resulted in getting yelled at during labor and my birth. No one wants or needs that.

    Hi There

I am a Doula based in Studio City and offer the basics of prenatal education and care. I also have a large network of fellow Doula's who are also certified childbirth educators in around Los Angeles, who provide great classes!

Let me know if you are interested in getting some info!

    Congrats on your little bundle.
