Delurking! FTM questions

I lurked here all through my pregnancy and have really appreciated all the advice and stories. Time to come out and play!

I am mommy to a one-month-old and have an awesome DH who is very into the AP style of parenting. Co-sleeping and breastfeeding are both going really well. I have questions about baby wearing and CDs, though.

Since DH was lucky enough to be home on paternity leave through her first month, she has rarely if ever been out of someone's arms. She's only been worn on the couple of instances we all went to the grocery store together. DH goes back to work this week, so I will be wearing her a lot more around the house.

The thing is, everytime I put her in the RS or the Moby, she falls asleep. We are just starting to get days and nights sorted out, and I'm afraid if I wear her too much, she's going to sleep too much during the day. Any thoughts or advice on that subject?

Also, my diapering question... LO HATES being wet. We use a either prefolds or fitteds during the day and it feels like we are changing her diaper every 30-45 minutes when she is awake. Is that normal for this age and for CDs? When she's in sposies, she goes longer between diaper changes, but I really want her in cloth. Will she eventually have longer stretches between wet diapers?

TIA for any tips or advice!

Re: Delurking! FTM questions

  • Regarding the sleeping while being worn, that is very common, especially at such a young age.  My LO slept a ton at the age, and woke every 3 to 4 hours, day and night.  We just went with the flow, and everything worked out just fine.  My DS started STTN around 10 weeks (I'm extremely lucky!).  I guess that doesn't really help, since you don't want her to sleep, but it really is so important to get the sleep they need, and if she if comfortable, why not go with it?

For your CDing problem, try some fleece liners.  They help draw the wetness away from LOs skin.  You can buy them ready to go, or you can just get a fleece blanket and cut it into strips that fit inside the diaper.

Congrats on your LO and welcome!

  • Babies that are worn tend to sleep in more of a catnap pattern, so you should be fine sleep wise. If she starts getting her days & nights confused, you can always address it then.

As far as the dipes go, yes, she should stop wetting so often very soon. I swore when Ari was a NB that he would pee as soon as I took his dipe off & then again w/in 15 mins of putting it on. I'm planning on doing some EC with my next LO to help with this - basically offer the potty when I change a dipe.  If I remember correctly he started staying dry for a bit longer (as in an hour) around 10 weeks maybe? I can't be certain, that seems like fooorrrreeeevvvveeer ago. LOL.

Congrats on your LO & hope you enjoy posting here!
