Success after IF

? from IFV looking for success stories after weight loss...

Hi Gals!
Did anyone have to lose a substantial amount of weight in order to cycle and then get a BFP?? How about using DE?
My RE has required me to lower my BMI to 35 in order to cycle with her and that would require me to lose about 100 lbs.? It?s a tough battle that I?m not sure I?ll be able to do(I?m still only on week 1 of WW), but maybe if I knew there were some success stories out there where someone lost a substantial amount of weight and then got a BFP it would help my motivation?. And to add to it the use of DE (my dx is POF) that would be even better!

Thanks Gals!

  • My BF's SIL did IVF for their first child...it took a ton of attempts (not sure of all the details)...but then she had weight loss surgery and had a surprise BFP after she had lost over 100 pounds.  Sorry that I don't know more about what her diagnosis was/is!  Good luck sweetie!

  • I lost 90 pounds before my IVF- I started to lose weight not just to do IVF- I wanted to be healthier and get my PCOS under control before starting any type of treatments.  I used Weight Watchers and it took 10 months to lose the weight.  I did get pregnant after my first IVF using my own eggs- our diagnosis was PCOS with hyperprolactinemia and MFI.
  • Not all RE's require weight loss.  Mine didn't.  Maybe you can check into another doctor? And 100 lbs is a bit crazy, in my opinion, she doesn't sound helpful!

All that being said, if you want to lose 100lbs you can do it!!  You can do anything you set your mind to.  Good luck!! :)

This exactly. My RE made a point of telling me that of course losing weight is healthier, but that theresnseveral studies that show it makes no difference during IVF. I got pregnant both times we did IVF snd never developed weight related complications during pregnancy. My BMI is over 35.

I haven't done IVF again since losing weight, but did do injects/IUI and can tell you that my 45 pound weight loss made a HUGE difference in how I responded.  I had an IVF-type response on a low dose that I had taken before.  My body reacted completely differently.

If you also have PCOS, weight loss should help you tremendously.

I followed a clean eating, low GI based diet and hit the gym.  Low GI is expecially important for anyone with PCOS.

    Good luck!
  • DH and I TTC for a year on our own with no success.  We did a year of treatment (clomid, femara, injectables) with IUI with no success even though we were officially unexplained.  We did three IVF consults and the one doctor I adored basically said that I might have success at my weight then (my BMI was about 40), but his advice was to get to a BMI of 35 or below along with several other simpler do at home improvements.

I spent about a year focusing on my own health.  I lost about 20 lbs, took a class on meditation with DH, did the supplement regimen recommended by the IVF doc and started chiropractic care.  I started all that in January, I was pregnant with my son by November without further IF treatment.  I didn't make it to the BMI he wanted but it didn't matter since I never had to see him for treatment.  And I didn't develop gestation diabetes but I did develop gestational hypertension while pregnant, and get put on bedrest though I'm not sure how much that was related to my starting weight or pregnancy weight gain.

I was diagnosed with thyroid disease after I gave birth.  I wish I'd know then as I think it would have made a difference in losing weight/getting pregnant.  But we managed to get by without that knowledge or treatment.

    Good luck!
