Do you want one gender over another?

I'm curious how many of you want one gender over another...

I of course, as everyone else, want a healthy baby first and foremost...

then after that, I go back & forth on what gender (it's our first). My brother & his wife are expecting a girl, so in a way, I know it would be fun to have a boy...but on the other hand, girls are so fun and I like my girl nursery colors better. I flip flop every few days which I guess is a good place to be in! How about y'all?

Re: Do you want one gender over another?

  • like you I want a healthy baby over anything else.

But i could pick i go back and forth. I have a 4 year old son (will be 5 by the time the baby comes) so i would love for him to have a little brother.   But, I also think it would be fun to have a little girl too - there is a pretty big age gap between my kids so having a girl might be fun - I love looking at all the girl clothes and buying for my nieces that it would be fun to get to do it for my daughter.   My mom has 3 grandsons between me and my sister so she would love a little granddaughter.    But, like I said i will be happy with either  - my main concern is healthy!

its fun to think about it though.

I already had my first dream about the sex of the baby - i dreamed it was a girl.   And Overall I have just had this feeling since i found out that it is a girl.  who knows!  We won't be finding out til the baby is born :)

  • Like you said, definitely a healthy baby first and foremost. But I'd really like a girl. Girls are just more fun to shop for. A co-worker had a baby shower this past spring and she had a girl and I had a blast shopping for it! So much pink and ruffles and cutesy stuff! I like nursery ideas for girls better, too.
  • Before I had my son I really really wanted a girl.  But I actually love having a boy and am much more at peace about the idea of having 2 boys than I thought I would be.  However, my family has seven boys in that next generation and no girls, so I know everyone is really hoping it's a girl.
  • I would be thrilled with either one!

Obviously we would be thrilled either way, but we are kind of hoping for a girl. In my generation, I am the only girl in my whole family (3 brothers, two stepbrothers, 4 male cousins) and while my husband has two sisters, they each have 2 boys apiece!! Even our cats are both boys! I need a little estrogen up in here. :) I have a feeling I will end up having another boy though. :) And admittedly I'd probably be a lot more prepared for a boy since I'm so used to them.

I want a healthy baby. Other than that, I see pros and cons to both. Most of my friends have boys and I am more familiar with boys, but we do have a nephew and if we had a girl it would be the first granddaughter, which would be kind of cool. So really we'd be totally fine with either.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I think that's I'm leaning toward another girl. DD2 and LO would be 16 months apart and I just dream of them growing up to be BFFs. My SIL has a girl so we have lots of girls around here ...

This exactly. I really wanted a girl for my first, but after having a boy... they're just so much fun. I wouldn't mind a girl at all this time around, but... I don't know. I'll be happy with either, but I secretly would love another boy.

  • We have a little boy, and I would love a little girl next, but I also realize having a little brother would be good.  So although I would like a little girl next, I will honestly be quite happy with a boy too!

  • Neither of us has a strong opinion one way or the other.  I have a slight preference for a girl for some reason.  Maybe partly because I like a lot more girl names and naming a boy will be harder for us.  And my mom would love to have a granddaughter.  And SIL had a girl in May and will have tons of girl stuff to hand down to us.  But my gut instinct is that it's a boy.  I've just had this feeling ever since we found out.  Either way I'm just happy to be having a baby!

  • Healthy first but if I had a magic wand I'd go for another girl.

I honestly wouldn't know what to do with a boy LOL!  I'm sure I'll figure it out but we are already 100% set up for a girl so it makes it that much easier.  Plus, my husband and I do not agree on ANY  boy names.....not one.  But we have several girl names we agree on.

Sooooo another little girl please :)

  • Not going to lie, I really want another boy. Mostly because the thought of having a teenage daughter scares the bejesus out of me!

I deep down won't care either way, but make no qualms about telling people my preference lol.

  • I'd love to have a boy to have one of each, but if DD gets a baby sister that'd be super fun too. I'd love to have 2 little girls! I go back & forth daily about which one I "want". In the end, I think I'll be both thrilled & slightly disappointed either way.

  • I'll happily take what I get!  But, I guess I feel pretty confident with a girl and less so with a boy.  I kinda hope this kiddo is another girl and then the next one, the last one we'll have, is a boy.

  • Since my hubby and I had a son first, we want to complete our family by having a girl. However, I keep having dreams that it's a boy so we'll just have to see what God has given us!  :)

I think I'd like to have a boy first.  But, I'd be happy either way.  I've thought it was a boy since day one though. We'll see in a few months I guess!

  • We kind of flipflop...I think a boy would be way easier to raise, and since my mom had 5 daughters and I had no dad and just one uncle, it would be nice for *my* side of the family. On the other hand, DH's side has no girls!  Our nursery is going to be pretty gender neutral (slight jungle theme -- more like green paint, some cling-on leaves, and gorillas since that was our college mascot :D ).

  • I agree, a healthy baby is the most important.  I do really want both a boy and a girl at some point.  My brother and I did not get along at all in elementary school but when we hit high school I grew to really love having a big brother.

Also, my DH doesn't know how to deal with kids younger than a toddler so I think he would bond faster with a boy, but I may be making that up.

For both those reasons I am hoping for a boy.

On my last pregnancy I had a feeling it was a boy, but this time I have not yet gotten a sense either way.

  • We don't have a preference but we have a boy name picked out so I keep finding myself thinking of the baby as a boy. My in-laws have 4 grandsons so they've put in their request for a girl. I told them we'll do our best.
  • I also go back and forth-it seems that each day I think of a different reason that I would like a boy or girl more!  So I really don't think I care much either way.

  • I go back and forth too. I some times think a girl would be more fun to shop for, but I saw something on tv recently that said most girls don't become friends with their moms until their late 20's. I know that's not true for all cases, but I'm afraid I'll be jinxed. As for boys, my family already has one little boy (my sister's son) so it would be nice to give my parents a granddaughter, plus my nephew is a terror and I don't know if I can handle all of that terrible 2's, 3's, 4's boy energy. Also, DH has his heart set on a girl name that is horrible, so if we had a boy that would make name selection easier. See...I'm very wish-washy. In all I don't really care. Just want a healthy take home baby.

  • BOY!  Of course I want a happy healthy baby and will love a girl and blah blah blah and all the politically correct stuff your suposed to say (and don't get me wrong, it's true) but yeah, if it was in my power to choose it would be a boy!  Of course, GOD has shown me once or twice in my life that I don't always make the best decisions for myself (I think that's probably true for all of us at some time or another) so ultimately I'm trusting He'll give us the baby we are meant to have.  But I'm still praying for a boy! • I would like a boy.  However, I have a feeling this is going to be a girl, and my mother feels the same way.  Obviously, I'd be happy either way.
  • A healthy baby first, obviously. However, if I had a choice I would LOVE a little boy. Of course God always knows what's best, and I pretty much never do, so I'm leaving it up to Him. lol

  • I would like another girl.... mostly because I think it would be awesome to experience the sisterly thing that I never really had. A big brother and two little sisters sounds nice. :)

  • DH wants a boy 100% (but of course would be happy with a girl too) because he wants him to be the big brother for any kids to come. Plus DH's brother has a girl so we were hoping to mix it up a little with a boy Stick out tongue

I don't have a strong preference either way but am of course drawn to more girls name, clothes and nursery color schemes so I think that would easiest for us in that sense. We have decided on both a boy name and a girl name though so either way we are ready and are planning a fairly gender enutral nursery because our next kid will be in there too.

  • Of course I want a healthy baby, but I would really like to have another girl.  I never had a sister and would love to give that to DD.  It would also be nice to reuse some of our girl things and not have to repaint the nursery that I love and worked so hard on.
