Pregnant after IF

Pack N' Play?

Are any of you registering for one of these for travel? DH and I think it seems really convenient as it's basically a portable crib if you go out of town. There are different kinds though. One type comes w a bassinet which we wouldn't really need bc we plan on having a stroller w detachable bassinet, but it also comes w a bouncer which might come in handy when OOT. It's twice the price as the one that's a plain crib. Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Pack N' Play?

  • We have one with the newborn napper and love it. It has a changing table on one side and napper on the other. We will take it with us when we go out of town next month but haven't used it for travel yet. It does fold up very nicely.

  • Lurker here - we LOVE our pack and play.   From newborn to 6 months we set it up in our living room and she would sleep in it  (newborn napper and then the bassinet portion) during the day and we used the change table all the time.  We use the full size playpen now for travel. Just got back from a 5 day trip and she slept perfectly in it at 14 months. Can't recommend them enough!  I would say the extra bells and whistles are definitely worth it in the beginning just to have the living room sleep/change station.

  • I went with a simpler version with just a changer, no newborn napper. I plan on keep it down stairs so I have a place for LO to nap during the day plus I will have something to change him on down there. Then as he gets older we will use it for trips too.

For me I have a couple bouncers so I didnt spend the extra money on the pnp with a bouncer. I also don't plan on taking him anywhere overnight for a while so I dont think that feature would be useful for me. I have also read a lot on the nurseries and bay gear board that most people didnt use the newborn napper. So I kinda went off of that, I hopefully will see soon!

  • We love our PNP. I have the Chicco one..It doesn't have the newborn napper, just the changing table. BUt it was so great when he was a newborn cause I set it up as a changing station downstairs..that way I didn't have to schlep all the way upstairs every time I need to change him..

As an infant he mainly slept in his swing (which you must get..) and vibrating bouncer..

We havn't used the PNP that much for travel. When we go home to MA my IL's just bought one for us to use up there..that way way we didn't have to shlep it. I would recommend getting the extra matterss though..it is much more comfortable for them..

Finally, we also have the bassinet from the stroller (we have a Uppa Vista) but Jake HATED it. We actually didn't use it at all :(. We maninly used the attachment add to the stroller to make it a snap n'go..Which is amazing...I do know you can get a stand for it and use that as a bassinet/crib. They sell both at BBB.

GOod Luck! All the baby stuff made my head hurt. I had to visit BBB like a million times to figure out what I wanted. Do YOu have Baby Bargins Book?

Yes, we have one. It's Graco Laguna bay or something. It has the newborn napper. I think we paid $150 or something. And it's not just for travel - since I plan to BF, baby will sleep in this in our room for the first few months. It just seems easier.

  • We have a PnP with bassinet and changing table features, but we've only ever used it as a crib. We just came back from a w/e trip and V slept in it just as well as he does in his own crib. Depending on how you plan to use it, a basic PnP without any optional features may work for you.

We are also getting the Graco Laguna Bay as a PNP.  It's currently on sale at Babies R Us for $50 off-only $109 and free shipping.

  • We registered for the Graco Capri. It has the newborn napper rocker, bassinet, and changing station. Although our house is 1 level I plan on using the PNP in the living room for naps and such rather then moving her back and forth to her crib. My SIL and a few friends have told me after delivery they were only comfortable sleeping in the recliner, if this is true for me too having her next to me will make things a little easier. We don't have the room in our bedroom for the full PNP or I'd keep it in there.

  • We've had a Graco one for a few years for my sister who comes to visit with her kids (so she doesn't have to drag hers w/her).  My mom also keeps one at her house.  I think they are definitely worth having both for travel and for having another place for them to nap/play at home.  I think most come with the bassinet insert (just a higher sleeping surface for up to 15 lbs.) and a changer.  The napper insert is new.  I haven't decided whether we are going to get/register for another one or not.
