road trip question ...dvd player

So on Friday we are leaving to go to chicago.  It is a 8-9hour drive.  We have a dvd player for ethan but i feel bad for sophia.  since she is rear facing she just stares at the back of the seat.  I told dh we should get a dual player that way she can watch a movie as well.  Do you think 11 months is too young ?

Re: road trip question ...dvd player

  • I don't think she NEEDS it.. But then again, i don't think she's too young.. But would she be interested in watching the same thing Ethan is watching? When Eve was 11 mos, she only liked Baby Einstein and Wonderpets.. all the other shows bored her.

You'll probably want a dual screen one anyway eventually... so I suppose you could get it now and it wouldn't hurt.  Unless you get them each a separate one? would the dual screen one be able to reach to hook up both FF and RF?

  • Loading the player...
  • I agree with Melissa - you'll want one eventually, so maybe now is a good time.  But, is she interested in watching shows?  Do you think it would keep her attention.  I know we took a road trip with Gavin at 11 months, and then we drove to NY for the move a few months later but we didn't have a DVD player at the time so I know we didn't use one then.
  • I think she is too young, but I'm not too big on the vdv players anyway.  She doesn't just stare at the seat anyway.  DD is still rear facing and suddenly yells out "Truck!" and "Blue" about other vehicles on the road.  They also look side to side easily and she will be able to E.
  • We went through SUCH a friggin nightmare to get a double in the care for FF Evan and RF Leah...these dual players are designed for when kids are facing the same direction so most cords are too short to run them from the from the one monitor on the back of one seat to the other in the back. The one we have now is from WalMart and the only way it would work is if the monitor that held the DVD was in back. So we have to pull over to change movies (but we had to do that anyway when we had one and they were both RF)...I'll update this post after I look at the brand, I don't even remember we tried so many :)

We spent $$$ on one from Best Buy but it didn't have a remote - the guy there told us a universal one would work. But when I called the manuf they said it wouldn't. So we returned it.
