newbie with ?

My twin boys were born at 30weeks they have been home from the hospital for 2weeks now -38weeks gestational. One of my boys is having on and off again diarrhea that is a mustard colored. It started friday night and was every 3 hours thru the night. It did stop saturday thru the day but is now back every 3 hours. They are both getting breast milk with neosure added to up calories. My questions is this "normal" or should I call the Dr tomorrow? Any advice on how to help him?

Re: newbie with ?

  • Are you sure it's diarrhea?  Mustard color is normal for breast milk and it's usually pretty runny since it's already liquid going in.  The only thing to be concerned about is if it's mucousy.

ETA:  also bloody, but you didn't mention that.

  • I agree with pp, frequent doesn't mean diarhea for babies that age.  As long as it isn't mucousy, or watery, and watch to see that it isn't burning his little bum.

  • I agree with PP's...you're describing a normal day with my LO (on BM - used to supplement with Neosure). He has about 10-15 mustard poop/poop-leaks per day.
