Walk for Pre-e update!

We raised $3710 in 25 days!!!!!!!!!!! Boston raised $12,175 and nationally we raised $270,738!!

Some interesting facts that I learned today: Prenatal care was created because of preeclampsia (hence why you get your BP taken and your urine checked at every appointment) but still 76,000 maternal and 500,000 infant deaths occur each year world wide. Preeclampsia is the highest cause of maternal and infant death world wide, but yet it is the least funded, least researched, and a disease that most people have not heard of. Since 2000, when the Preeclampsia Foundation began, they have made more progress towards understanding and a reason behind pre-e than in the past 100 years. They also believe that there could potentially be a break-through in the next 5 years with the help of the money raised at our walks! Also, did you know that NICU's were invented because JFK and his wife had a baby that died because there was no equipment to help premature babies?

Thanks for the update and congratulations on your fundraising! I had HELLP Syndrome, a severe variant of pre-eclampsia, so am very interested in supporting this cause.

Thanks so much for posting this!! My DH actually saw a picture from the walk in Boston's METRO yesterday and brought it home for me to see. I had severe Pre-E and delivered our twins at 33w6d because of it.

I would love to get involved with the next one!!! I'm sending you a PM now, maybe we can walk together?
