lol my doctor told me to not paint my nails and to not use a leave in conditioner. also I cant eat deli meat and cant use lotions not even jergens?? but on occasion i eat a sub and def use lotion but made sure they are organic i think alot of it is ridiculous but i kno they say to not do it for a reason so i listen but never heard the blow dryer one did it give a reason??
I can't even lift a gallon of milk in front of family or friends before their threatening to whip me after the baby is born and I'm like seriously?? How am I to feed myself if I can't pour milk in my cereal? lol
Had a little old lady at walmart tell me not to push too heavy of a cart that it puts strain on the baby.
Don't lift your hands over your head for any reason, pretty sure the pregnancy stretches reccomended by the Dr. included stretches above my head.
Don't walk TOO much, when I walked an average of 4-6 miles a day prepregnancy. The list goes on and ON AND ON. . . I'm not even half way through yet! I know what you mean about crazy- it seems this town turned to a nutward.
We live on a lake and I love to jet ski. I totally understand that I shouldn't do that, but I was told not to even go out on a sail boat! Um, I'm pretty sure that my car goes WAY faster and hits worse bumps than a sailboat! I DO refuse to help, but I really enjoy sailing and it is SO relaxing!
My doctor actually said that just about anything I want to eat is fine in moderation, but that I should only stay away from a specific list of seafood. I've been eating sub sandwiches with lunchmeat about once a week!

Lotions???? Seriously??? I never heard this. But then again, the vast majority of the list of things not to do, I've done, lol. Even with DD I found a lot of it to be overkill.

I do pretty much everything, in moderation. I don't drink or smoke even when not pregnant, so not those, lol. But lunch meat, caffeine, hot dogs, etc, they happen.
I also use a sacylic (sp?) acid face wash; when I got a prenatal facial (the entire spa is for pregnant women, so that's all they work with) and te facialist told me that it can be harmful if you ingest it or if it's on over like, 50% of your body, but putting it on your face for a minute and rinsing it off isn't going to harm anything.

This exactly. I had a hot dog yesterday and I had lunch meat last week. The odds of getting listeria are less than your odds of being killed in a traffic accident. Women have been having babies for centuries without all these "rules." Just use common sense.
I saw quite a few pregnant women with painted nails so I asked my doctor when I was 14 weeks and he said it's okay after 13 weeks. He also said to be sure and do it ventilated area!
The only things I have cut out are raw fish and meats. I never smoked so not an issue, but I will have a glass of red wine here and there. I eat deli meat, I color my hair, I get manis ad pedis every 2 weeks. I avoid the roller coasters at theme parks also.
As for carrying heavy things, my daughter is well over 30 lbs and as long as I'm feeling fine, I pick her up.
I eat deli meat, just have Subway toast it. Still had cold turkey though the other day. This is in moderation though.
I paint my nails with a mask on and the window open.
I use lotion. That one just seems stupid.
I use a hairdryer (my hair is bleached and doesn't dry on it's own).
I'm past the first trimester so in 2 weeks I am going to bleach my roots with a mask in a well ventilated area.
I eat seafood. Also in moderation but I have had dried squid and tuna from a can. I had sushi once but will be avoiding that because you never know the handling techniques of the restuarant.
If my mother in law knew I was going to bleach my hair and that I was painting my nails she would probably kill me. She is kind of traditional Korean-avoid everything-lady. She doesn't even want me going up and down stairs later. We will see how I feel when I get bigger.
I may seem very liberal but I avoid the big ones like alcohol and drugs (which I have never done). Also, since I have been TTC forever, my body has been built up for baby since I have been taking prenatal vitamins for like a year before baby took up occupancy.
I have one friend with two kids who is on the "NO lunch meat, hair dyeing, lifting anything " group. I just don't bring it up with her. I work as a wedding photographer and am on my feet 8-10 hours while lifting and carrying lots of equipment. I also eat what ever vendor meal is provided for dinner which is sometimes a deli sandwich. I am not worried about it at all. My Dr. said to do what I can handle - which is quite a bit ans was not concerned about occasional deli meat. Common sense and moderation really go a long way :-) Also - I have been interrupted at Starbucks by an older woman who noticed that I did not order a decaf - I was polite - but wanted to tell her to mind her own business!!!!
When I was grocery shopping the other day the cashier who was an older lady told me not to pick up my SS. He doesn't weigh that much and I wouldn't do it if it hurt or got uncomfortable. Also I don't carry him around I was trying to get him out of the line fast.
A rather large lady at my work always tells me I can't eat anything. Not that I asked for her stupid opinion. She even yelled at me for eating french fries because they have salt. I normally eat very healthy for lunch. On that particular day that's what I wanted. I want to tell her sometime "How about you go on a diet and stop worrying about what I eat!"

I just had a 'friend' call me today to tell me she WAS going to take me to get a pedicure tomorrow for my birthday but now she's not because she was told by a friend that I couldn't go because of the fumes. . . ughm. . . WHAT FUMES are involved with a pedi?? I can go get my hair cut- I can get my eyebrows waxed but I can't get a pedicure?? Sometimes I wonder wtf people are really thinking. I told her that my doctor had already approved me to be in a salon as long as there wasn't a perm or anything without ventilation. *sigh* I'm pregnant- not a bubble woman!
My mom is strict about certain things- and keeps telling me I need to avoid eating or using anything with chemicals. I have been avoiding aspartame... but I still bend to pick things up, exercise, eat lunch meat and hot dogs, have iced tea, and have even had sushi a few times. I think I'm going to avoid the sushi and caffiene from now on, it causes me more anxiety than it's worth. I was running until about 13 weeks when I broke my toe, it's just too painful now. I miss it!

I went out last night with hubby and wore some really sexy platform heels. I saw a friend and she said not to wear high heels....LMAO!
Someone at work tells me this nearly every single day! That I am going to trip and hurt the baby since I wear heels. I trip when I wear flats, I don't think heels are going to make much of a difference.
With our first pregnancy I was all hyper-paranoid about the things I'm not suppose to have or do...
This time around, I'm enjoying my competitive lifting long after most of the other pregnant women in the sport I know have backed off further than I am (I still can lift over my bodyweight without needing a spotter)... Then I'm enjoying my lunchmeat, Peanut butter, etc. As well as sleeping in any position that I can get SLEEP!

This exactly. I have been super laid back with most things. I've even had sushi... Moderation. Last night I walked into nobus spot in Phoenix to say hi to a friend working there and the ppl outside looked at me like I was the devil since they serve sushi.
Kinda makes you wonder how women got through pregnancy all those years ago lol. I've only been told by my doc, no lunch meat unless heated and no hair coloring, which is fine by me since I dont' do it anyways. LOL. Some of these are outrageous though!
i haven't changed much except my work out intensity and drinking/consuming too much caffeine. deli meat is fine if you warm it up a lot and if it's from a non hole in the wall. my doctor said, "do you think women in japan stop eating when they get pregnant? (big on fish there, get it?)" i've been doing my nails the entire time, too, it's totally fine! just make sure the room is very ventilated.

Re: Stuipd things people tell you not to do while pregnant...
No deli meat unless it's been warmed because it carries Listeria (sp?) which can be harmful to you and baby.
The other stuff does seem super silly though lol.
no, you're eating for two. it's just that one of you weighs like a pound!
I can't even lift a gallon of milk in front of family or friends before their threatening to whip me after the baby is born and I'm like seriously?? How am I to feed myself if I can't pour milk in my cereal? lol

My husband and I went canoeing a few weeks ago and I made the mistake of telling my grandma - according to her I shouldn't be doing anything.
I don't = eat raw fish sushi, drink alcoholic beverages, smoke, eat lunch meat (but as an adult I've never been a fan), take anything for aches
I do = paint my nails but I use 3-free by butter London, have 1 cup of coffee/day, use lotion

Where to start. So far, people have told me to...
-Stop running while I'm pregnant because I might "shake the baby loose."
-Stop exercising in general because it might hurt the baby (in spite of medical evidence otherwise and clearance by my doctor).
-Stop eating deli meat.
-Stop wearing shoes with any sort of heels because I might trip and hurt myself.
-Don't dye my hair.
The list goes on...I've promptly ignored all of the advice.
I can't stand when people tell me not to wear my high shoes (which are pretty much all of them)....I get this a lot from older people.
