Re: Breast Pump/Bottles
I waited until after I had given birth. I had a cheap hand pump, just in case I needed it, but bought the Medela pump a few weeks after I had given birth and had been breastfeeding successfully.
I thought about registering for it, just so that I could get the completion discount but Target ended up selling it cheaper than BRU with the discount
Yep. I registered for and received a Medela Pump in Style (the backpack version) and an Avent starter set. I didn't want to get a bunch of bottles only to find our baby didn't care for them. It's all trial and error I'm told!
ETA: I plan on EBF, but will have to pump when I return to work.
TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11
TTC #2 off and on since 7/12
When my boys were born I really needed my breast pump right away. I had a cheap one sided electric pump I couldn't get anything out of. A friend brought over her good one and I pretty much had to express a little before I could ever get ds latched on. I don't know how I would have gotten through the first few weeks without it...so yes I've bought one for this time though I really don't know how long I'm going to BF twins.
I hope you don't mind me responding. I don't post much on this board. But I rented a hosptial grade pump and it was the BEST thing I did. It cost me like 40$ a month (we rented it from a medical supply pharmacy) and it was really so much better then one I bought. The suction is WAY stronger then any one you can buy at the store. I actually returned mine...and just used the hospital one for 6months..
SOmetimes your insurance will even pay for it.
THIS!
Before DS was born I was totally anti-rent. I thought it was super weird to rent a breast pump... BUT, he came a month early and the hospital immediately sent a pump to my room (Medela Symphony) because they thought we would need to bottle feed him. The pump worked great and my milk came in the day after he was born (I attribute it to the great suction). When I left the hospital I decided to go rent a Medela Symphony and I'm so so happy that I did. The suction is so great and I can pump almost 6 ounces from each breast every time I try to pump. I think if I were to switch to a different pump my supply would suffer greatly, SO I highly recommed renting a Medela Symphony!
Oh, I also pump directly into Medela bottles and feed him those when I need to give him a bottle. I have a box of Avent bottles I haven't even touched yet. Otherwise I transfer the milk to Medela storage bags and freeze.
