I'm taking the kids to the beach for a week next month. I rented a condo, so we'll have a full kitchen. I was thinking of breaking it up into smaller lists so as to not be so overwhelming, but I'm still overwhelmed! LOL And FTR, the plan is to eat breakfast and lunch at the condo every day and we'll go out to dinner probably 4 out of the 7 nights.
Linens (the condo has 2 queen beds and a sleeper):
2 sets queen sheets
1 set twin sheets
Pillows and pillow cases
blankets
bath towels
wash clothes
beach towels
Clothing:
Need help here. How many outfits/jammies/bathing suits per kid?
Toiletries:
Hand soap
bar soap
shampoo/conditioner
kids shampoo
toothpaste
toothbrushes
hair brush
deodorant
mouth wash
floss
lotion
Misc:
beach toys
beach umbrella
swimmies
sunscreen
beach blanket
toys
dvds
eta: laptop, laptop charger, cell charger, camera, camera charger, first aid kit
Non-Perishables (will buy perishables when I get there):
cereal
coffee/coffee filters
fruit snacks
popcorn
sweetener for coffee
paper products
juice boxes
pb&j
mayo/mustard
Is there anything major that you think that I am missing off of my list?
Re: beach vacation packing list - help me!
Do you have to bring linens? I have never heard of a condo not having clean linens.
First aid kit? We went on vacation last year and as soon as we stepped out of the room onto the lake, DS got bit by something and it swelled up so big.
Cell phone charger
medicines (if they take any)
They wanted nearly $100 for the linen package. My cheapness won out over my laziness and I decided to pocket the $100 and just bring my own! LOL
First aid kit is a good idea too. I have a little one that I keep in my gym bag, I have to make sure that makes it over to my suitcase.
Kelly Monaghan's 5K - 5/15/11 - 3rd Place in AG
Walk the Talk 5K - 5/18/11 - 31:12 PR
Ridley Run 3.1 - 4/14/12 - 1st race of the year, 32:45
I'm doing 2 outfits, one bathing suit, one pair of pjs per kid per day. (we do not have a washer/dryer where we are staying)
I just bought that new sunscreen that can go on wet skin. I usually don't use spray sunscreens but the last thing I want is for the kids to get a burn.
Beach chairs were a must for us. The place we are staying provided the chairs but not the umbrella.
Thanks for the first aid kit suggestion! I'm going to pack that right now.
I have never heard of paying for linens. Crazy!
Laundry detergent if there will be a washer/dryer so you can take less clothes and wash if you need to.

For clothes, if you don't have a washer, I bring at least 2 outfits per kid per day (especially if you're driving). You end up in and out of the swimsuits all day and so you tend to use more clothes since I hate putting on dirty clothes. Plus if they get sandy, etc. I would bring as many swimsuits as you can - at least 3-4 - per kid. You can rinse them out in the shower or bathtub when they get sandy.
Movies? Puzzles? Toys/games for at night? We used to do puzzles or play cards at night on vacation growing up so now that's what I do with my kids...or at least with the girls.
What about baby powder? That stuff is the best at getting sand off kids. Even better than a shower.
Instead of juice boxes, I'd probably bring powdered lemonade and/or a bottle of juice. It's cheaper and you can refill the kids' thermoses or cups easier.
Do you need dish soap? Is there a dishwasher? We always used to bring little tubs of dishwasher soap and dish soap.
What about some laundry detergent just to rinse/wash out things in the sink if you don't want to bring too much. At the very least, you could wash undies and swim suits and hang them to dry.
I'll keep thinking.
Whenever we go to a place within the US, I try to pack as little as possible. It's not like there isn't a grocery store around, right? I would NOT pack any food. We did that the first time and it was just idiocy, as there was a supermarket right across the street. We paid higher prices but oh well, it was well worth it the next couple of times not have to think about packing it or finding space for it. I'd skip all the food, and save the space for other things.
If there is a w/d, I would pack as little clothes as possible, too. They're on a beach, clothes don't matter. I'd bring a couple of play outfits and something casual but more decent looking for going out.
Clothing: if the condo has laundry, then bring 4 changes of clothes per kid plus one hoodie/sweatpants per kid; 2 bathing suits per kid and one set of jammies per kid
I'd use beach towels for bath towels rather than bring 2 separate sets of towels. Bring one towel per person plus 2 additional towels.
You are not missing a thing and if you are, it is a) only a week and b) you can probably buy it.
Have fun!
(my dad used to say pack half the stuff and bring twice the money...I have followed this rule with great success)
