Hi Everyone -
So #2 is due November 9. I want to get a double stroller but was thinking of waiting for a few months after baby is born.
I love to go for walks around town with #1 but was thinking of using a baby carrier for those beginning weeks and then it will be winter. I don't see myself talking them both out too much those first few months.
Those of you with 2 already, what was your experience? Was it a necessity in the beginning?
Thanks
FYI - #1 will be 15 months when the baby is born
Re: Can I hold off on a double stroller for a bit?
17 months apart here.
I wore the baby and used the single for the first several months.
Then we used the double a hand full of times and realized it was a monster and a mess because #1 always wanted down to go run around.
Then we got the sit and stand and sold the double.
I highly recommend waiting until you're no longer wearing the baby.
It's nice to have your hands free and the baby on you if you need to take off running after the toddler.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
For me it was a must even through I do love my slings. My boys are 15 months apart and DS2 was born hte first of October. I got a double b/c of the trips to the pediatricians office and everywhere else. Our pedi office you have to park in the parking deck then take an elevator down walk around to the building then antoher elevator up to the office. It's just easier with a double stroller. I still use the double stroller to the pedi office even through DS1 is 2yo. It's just easier to keep track of him and since he likes it I might as well use it.
Personally, I don't like wearing my kids so the double was a necessity for me.
I'm glad we had a double from day one. I had a c-section and couldn't comfortably babywear in the very beginning. We used the double right away when going to the pediatrician. We stayed at the shore for a long weekend when DD was only 2.5 weeks old. I was so happy to have the double for the boardwalk.
We still use our single. Sometimes they are both in the double- walks around the neighborhood, day trips, mall shopping. Sometime DD is in the single and DS walks. Sometimes DS is in the single and I wear DD. Sometimes one of them is in a shopping cart and the other is in the single.
You can definitely hold off, but I would get one eventually.
I had a great experience with wearing the baby and pushing DS in the single for the first 5 months. We did find uses for the double in the early months during the winter, but I would say the majority of the time I wore DD. That is, until summer hit. Babywearing in the warm weather SUCKS. When you have a 7 month old and a 22 month old, you will want a double stroller.
If you dont feel like you'd be using one a whole lot, get a used one off craigslist.
Honestly, I waited a little too long. I realized we needed it when DS was about 8 months (DD 25m), and since we didn't have it all along, it seemed a waste to buy one and only use it for a year. So we're getting by without it, but if I'd had it from Day 1, I would have gotten about 2-3 years of use out of it, which would have been worth it.
If you think you'll get one, I'd get it within the first few months.
Thanks everyone for your input! I am definitely getting one... just need to decide when.
18 months apart.
well worth the double stroller..we use it for walks, the mall, fair, vegas, parks,
i've been using it since he was 2 weeks old
I don't have any experience yet, but we also plan on holding off on the double stroller for a bit.
