A and K arrived on July 20th at 10:20pm and 10:26pm via a med-free vaginal delivery (other than pitocin for the induction)! I had talked with my OB about "winging it" pain control-wise from the start and she was completely supportive of it. I left the option on the table, but the topic never came up once labor started and by the time I thought I just couldn't do it anymore, I was pushing
After 3 weeks of hospital bedrest because of advanced dilation (5cm) and signs of developing pre-e, I was induced at 3pm on Wednesday. It took a couple of hours of pitocin for me to dilate to 6cm. At around 730, my OB came in and broke baby A's water and told me to expect the contractions to become much stronger. In the next hour I went from talking and laughing through my contractions to laying in the fetal position trying to rip the bedrails off the bed.
By 930 I was in the OR dilated to 10cm and ready to push. I pushed for close to an hour for baby A. She weighed in at 6#, 7oz and 18 inches long. With my next contraction, the dr. broke Baby B's water. Baby B came flying out with the next contraction and weighed 5#, 6oz, and 17 inches long. Both babies had their cords around their necks, but they were able to take care of it quickly.
Through the entire labor and delivery, I barely made a sound other than asking for water. Everybody kept commenting on how quiet I was, but all I was doing was trying to keep myself calm and tell myself I had made it that far already and I could finish the job!
Unfortunately, Baby A caused 3 major tears (one very deep that almost reached my cervix). It took them close to 2 hours to repair the damage, and I will honestly say that the repair was WAY worse than the labor and delivery combined. At this point, my OB basically insisted on pain meds, and I didn't argue.
Even with the horrendous tearing, it was absolutely the most incredible experience of my life. My recovery is going well. A little slow because of blood loss and all of this lovely repair work I've had done, but my two beautiful girls are a wonderful distraction! They're breastfeeding well and have had no complications, so I'm one happy mom! We're headed home either tonight or tomorrow!
