Preemies

What did you do with your preemie clothes?

Did you just donate them to the goodwill?  I thought about dropping ours off at the NICU (with the exception of a few outfits that we'll keep).

It is hard for me to let any of them go.  It reminds me of how tiny he was (since even the smallest outfit was big on him when he got it).

This. But I will donate them to the NICU rather than goodwill.

  • We donated them. I don't like having them around, the pictures are enough for us.

  • I kept a few little ones to just remember how smal they were. Then we donated the rest to the NICU for parents who need them. It was important to me to be able to give back to a NICU that gave s much to us.

  • I donated most of them to the NICU.  I kept a couple outfits that really reminded me of DD when she was that little.

I donated mine to the NICU. As hard as it was, I like knowing another unprepared family will get good use out of them. I dont think any soon to be parent buys preemies since they just don't assume they won't go to full term. We sure didn't! For the first few days he wore clothes, we borrowed donated ones from the NICU. FWIW, I kept his first outfit he wore (the NICU let me keep it for sentimental reasons) and my fave preemie outfit that was gifted to me.

  • I'm framing one of my favorite little outfits from DD1 and putting it in her big girl room, but it's not really preemie-sized...it says it is, but I think it's really closer to NB. I kept the rest and I'm planning on putting them in the drawers for DD2. If she never wears them, great, but DD1 was also teeny weeny for her GA at birth, and DH and I are both pretty short, so it's fully possible we just make small babies. I figure I've already bought them, might as well use them again if we can. Once we're done having kids, I'll donate them like the rest of the clothes. THAT will be a sad, sad day.

I kept a few of the really special ones - his micro-preemie outfit that was designed to work with all the medical equipment and his first tiny, little hat.  Basically, I kept enough to frame and show the progression of his size.  The rest I donated to the NICU.  If I have another preemie, I'll buy it all again.

  • I'm keeping mine until I'm done having kids.  It's superstitious but I almost feel like if I'm prepared, it won't happen again.  I did give some of the outfits to one of the NICU moms who came in when I was leaving and will donate the rest when I'm done.

  • I'm saving them just in case this wasn't a one time occurance. I'm hoping to never have to use them again but better safe than sorry right? Maybe it will help ward off pre-term labor in the future!

  • Most of DD's clothes are hand me downs from friends. Pretty much, when a person has a baby in our circle of friends, everyone unloads on them all the baby clothes, and then when someone else gives birth, the clothes (and toys) just make their rounds. We actually had a bunch of preemie clothes already. Friend #1's partner had a preemie girl. When friend #2 got PG, friend #1 unloaded all the baby clothes onto friend #2 (even the preemie clothes, even though friend #2 didn't need them). When I was PG, friend #2 gave me all the clothes (her DD is 2 years older), even the preemie stuff. Thank goodness she did, as we ended up using it.

So, we'll keep all the clothes for now until we either have another kid (I have a 30% chance of developing pre-e again) or a friend of ours has a kid. Once we're all done having kids, then they will make their way to Goodwill (or the NICU if they accept used clothing), or maybe I'll even Craigslist them.

  • I've been told they make good doll clothes so I will save some for that and the rest I'll donate to the NICU.

  • Call me a pack-rat, but I kept them...all of them. I couldn't bring myself to donate Lily's tiny first outfits. Kudos to those of you who donated to the NICU!

  • I kept a few of my favorite outfits to keep and donated the rest to the NICU.  But he was a fairly big preemie (born at 4lb 15oz) so we didn't have too much stuff before he grew out of them and into regular newborn clothes.
