Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Eating every 2 hours at 6 weeks...

My LO just turned 6 weeks and is STILL wanting to eat every 2 hours. He is eating anywhere from 3-4 ounces each feeding. This is getting exhausting!! Is anyone else going through this? Probably a dumb question, but is there any way to get him to go longer between feedings or is this something I'm just going to have to wait out? TIA

  • I hate to tell you this, but my kiddo is almost three months and still goes two hours between feedings during the day...sometimes closer to 1 and a half.  At night, however, we get 10-11 hours.  So hang in there and maybe the nighttime feedings will become fewer and farther between!

  • DD is 8 weeks, and she still eats every 1.5-2 hours during the day at times.  I figure that she's making up for sleeping longer stretches at night (9 hours).

  • I could definitely deal with it if it were just during the day, but it is nighttime as well....

  • My LO is almost 8 weeks and is eating every 2 hours during the day, and 3-4 at night. He will sometimes go 3 during the day, but only if he naps through the 2 hour mark. Sometimes it's more like 1.5 hours, especially evenings.

  • Totally normal. 6 weeks is really early to start thinking about a schedule.

  • Oh man that sucks! I'm not sure if you want to try to feed him a little bit more at each feed to help him tide over longer?

  • DS has just started to sleep 10-12 hours straight and when he wakes up, the next 3 bottles are 2 hours apart.

This. Try giving him half an ounce to an ounce more per feeding. We just increased DS to 5oz during this last week and he just started today going longer stretches (about 3.5 hours between feedings). Sometimes he still goes 2-2.5 hours. The more the eat during the day the less they should eat at night I think... Are you BF or FF? BF babies eat more often anyway, so if that's what you're doing, that may be why.

This exactly, but my LO is almost 11 weeks.

  • Same for us. DD eats every 2 hours during the day...SOMETIMES 2.5-3 hours, but it's usually 2, especially earlier in the day. At night she will go 3-4 hours. Hoping at some point this will stretch out. She eats anywhere from 2-4 oz at a time.

  • At 6 weeks they have a growth spurt, my LO was eating a ton around that time.

  • LOL. Until I stopped nursing DD on demand (we weaned at 18 months), she ate every hour or two when we were at home.

  • DD is almost 6 weeks old and she still generally eats every 2-3 hours during the night. We sometimes get a 4-hour stretch during the day - which I wish she would switch to the night!! She is EBF. It is exhausting!
