Minivan ?

I think I've finally won DH over to the dark side! We are going to go look at/test drive some used vans on Friday.

Sell me on yours or tell me why you don't like it.

We are most likely to buy either a gently used Town and Country or Grand Caravan for cost purposes, but are open to suggestions!

I also need one that will go decent in snow. We usually only get a foot (at most) a few times per year.

Go!

(TIA!)

Re: Minivan ?

  • I don't have a minivan, but if we were to get one I'd be looking at the Toyota Sienna, preferably the model that offers AWD.  The Honda Odyssey is really popular as well, I feel like every minivan owner I know of has this, which is probably why I wouldn't get one (poor excuse but oh well) but they are great vehicles.

  • We just bought a Toyota Sienna in February and love it.  We were initially going to get the Dodge Caravan but we wanted a towing package on it because we own a small fishing boat.  In order to get it on the Caravan we had to get the top model and it was about the same price as the base model of the Toyota with a towing package.  After doing a ton of research and seeing the ratings for each on Edmunds and other websites, the Toyota was higher rated engine longevity wise so we went with that.

With all that being said, our Toyota does not have any bells and whistles but that wasn't important to us.  So no power sliding doors, no tinted windows, no heated seats, no DVD player, etc.  But we got the quality of Toyota.

    Good Luck!!!

  • I have the Toyota Sienna LE and love it.  It has the power sliding doors (best invention ever) rear backup camera, blue tooth, steering wheel audio controls.  It also has regular windows that go down in the back seat.  The Honda Odyssey is the most expensive so we didn't consider it.  We looked at the Dodge and Chrysler.  The nice thing with those are they have stow and go, which means the 2nd row seats fold into the floor as well.  With the Sienna you have to actually remove the seats if you need the storage space (I don't see us encountering this often if ever).  With the Dodge you have to get a higher end model to get the power doors.  I think the Toyota has slightly better ratings and retail value.  Honestly they are all pretty similar.  I just really wanted those power doors and liked the look of the Sienna.

  • We love our Chrysler Town and Country.  Very similar to the Caravan.  I would only look at these 2 options because they were the only American made minivan's and we don't buy foreign cars in my family.  That said it has the power doors and stow and go, which we love so we can put down the back seat and load big items in the back- we do this somewhat often.  I think these things are all standard, ours is not loaded by any means but has nice features.
