half day summer fridays

What is your company's policy if they have half day fridays during the summer? Are you responsible for making up the time during the year, or how does that work? Our company was going to do half day Fridays but told us we had to work the extra hours during the week to balance out the pay. Essentially they weren't going to pay us for a full Friday when we didn't work the extra time to make up for it. Just wondering how other companies handle this and what they're policies are?

  • That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.  An extra hour a day M - TH gets you out 4 hours early on Fridays.

  • i know a lot of companies that have you do an extra hour M-Th and then get out early on Friday.
    I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • My company does it but you have to work 40 hours Monday thru Thursday! I love them! What I do is do the extra hours after miss e is asleep! Or I go in earlier and dh drops her off at day care!
  • My company doesn't give any half-days on summer Fridays (free or not).  My husband's company gives them 3 half-days to use anytime during the summer, and they get paid for it.  I think that's pretty nice of them.
  • We are getting off at 3 on Fridays over the summer and we don't have to make it up. But we work more than 40 hours a week normally and have the kind of work that has to get done one way or another.

  • From Memorial Day to Labor Day we work 9 hours M-Th. We have every other Friday off and the Fridays we are on is 8 hours. I LOVE our summer schedule.

    I and my husband (different companies) each have the same schedule option, but it's year-round.  Our companies would never just give us 4 hours off every week.

  • My employer gives us early release Fridays from Memorial Day - Labor Day without making up the time or a change in pay. Employees who can't take the half day (like security or facilities) get an extra week off w/ pay! But I work for a University so the summers are a little different here.
