Our 4 wk old has become very fussy. So today I thought I would pump to see how much milk I am getting. I have pumped every 2 hours to see if I could make more. However I am only making between 3.5 ounces and 5 ounces between the 2 breasts. I don't feel like this is enough and that may be why she has become so fussy. Help I'm a first time mom and I don't know what to do
Re: not getting much milk
If you are getting between 3.5 to 5 oz between the two breasts each time you pump, that's great! My older DS never took more than 5 oz from a bottle and we nursed for 14 months.
My younger DS at 4 months old, usually doesn't take more than 4 oz. At 4 weeks old there is a growth spurt where they want to nurse constantly and are more fussy. It's normal, just nurse when she wants to and it will calm down soon.
Baby gets more at the breast than the pump can. Some people do not respond well to the pump. 3.5-5oz is AWESOME at only 4wks PP.
DS is 3.5 months and takes 3oz bottles every 2.5-3hrs while at daycare and he is satisfied.
4wks is right about the time they are awake more and become more aware of their surroundings. It is totally normal.
You are doing great with the amount that you're pumping. I was always worried about DD getting enough milk in the beginning, but as long as your LO is gaining weight, it's not a problem. That's also good that you're starting to freeze. This is essential if you want to continue to BF and you have to go back to work. Good luck:)
