What meds are safe for surgery while ebf

I am trying to schedule my wrist surgery but am EBFing my 12 wk old son. I do not want to lose my supply and would prefer not to pump n dump if possible. Does anyone know what light sedatives are ok? I think I heard propafol was ok due to it metabolizes fast but any help is greatly appreciated. I have a large ganglion cyst that is hurting bad and effecting my hand function. I have put it off since his birth but it just keeps getting worse. Thanks mamas

  • Page AmyG* on the breastfeeding board. She has a reference book and years of experience. It should be fairly easy to manage for surgery where they don't even have to put you out.

  • I think more than what the surgeons tell you are actually safe to BF.

I had surgery three times the summer after my first was born, and never skipped a feeding!

I worked with a lactation consultant and she called the surgeon on my behalf to talk over with him the safest and easiest way to do the surgery.

I would recommend you do the same! They all give you that 24-48 hour bs about pumping and dumping, but I never had to do it!

    Good luck!
