Pregnant after IF

We're Team...

Blue!  Yay!  We are so very excited...it's funny because my family has a bunch of girls in it so it should be really interesting to have a little boy in the mix!

Everything looked good on U/S except one problem...the baby has a 2 vessel umbilical cord instead of 3.  This means that there is one vein and one artery instead of 2 arteries that would normally be there.  We aren't really sure how major of a problem it really is but the tech said that its not a huge deal, not to stress but to talk to our doctor.  I was going to call my doctor tomorrow, but the tech strongly advised (since my doctor won't even be in tomorrow) that we wait until Monday to call her so that she has time to review everything.  Does anyone know anything about this?  I really hope that we don't worry a lot about this over the weekend.  Anyway, so that's that.

Now, I really need to go to bed.  Night ladies!

  • Congrats on Team blue!

There are a few gals who generally post on the high risk board with two vessel cords.  I think it is simply something to watch and not a huge concern, from what I've read?  (Watching baby's growth more closely, perhaps?)

Don't worry - wait until Monday to bust out the worry and then you can at least get those questions answered!!!

  • No advice on the cord but I'm sorry you have to deal with it and I hope everything is just fine. Wanted to say congrats and welcome to Team Blue!! :)

  • Congrats on team Blue!!!  So many boys around here lately!!!

I have no advice or info regarding the umbilical cord, but if the tech didn't think it was a big deal, I would  try not to worry for now (I know, easier said than done) and call your OB on Monday!

  • Yay for little boys!  As for the umbilical cord, I don't know for sure, but my sister's friend had that diagnosis and I believe they were most concerned about the baby's growth, but everything was fine and the baby is perfect.  Hope your OB can answer your questions quickly, but in the meantime, try not to worry!

  • Congrats on your little boy!  They still have not been able to get a clear picture of my baby's umbilical cord.  We've had two anatomy scans and will go for a third in a couple weeks to try again.  The tech said it's not uncommon and didn't make a big deal out of it, just something they need to note.  Hope all is okay with your little one!
