I need sling recs!

I only had one, and DS didn't care for it too much, so I'm at a loss.  DHs coworker wants to buy his other coworker a sling, so I need some recs.  TIA!

Re: I need sling recs!

  • I had one like this and it was ok. I was never a good baby wearing mama though.

  • My favorite carriers were the ergo (still use that one) and the moby (DH called me sensei (sp?) every time I put it on, but it was perfect for the newborn stage, so comfy!).  I also used a hotsling--easier than the moby, but not as versatile or comfortable, and the bjorn.  DH liked the bjorn best.  Hope that helps!

  • I loved my ring sling. We used it until about 4 months. So easy to put on and great for outings. I have a Maya ring sling and a Sakura bloom ring sling. I like the Sakura Better because it's more supportive but they are pricy. Found mine during a big sale.

  • I'd recommend against a pouch style sling like the Peanut Shell or a Hotsling.  They're really dependent on being sized perfectly and aren't good newborn carriers.

I'm a big fan of ring slings for newbie babywearers as they're easy to figure out and can be used for years.  I've tried quite a few expensive slings and my favorite brand can be bought from sleepingbaby.net for well under $50.  We use ours daily.

Zolowear ring slings can also be found locally (they're made in Austin) but they're more expensive and the shoulder style isn't as comfy as the Sleeping Baby pleating is IMO.

  • I second a ringsling over a pouch sling. You just don't want to get a mama a sized item that'll make her feel horrible b/c it's too small or too big.

ringslings are adorable, much more adjustable and easy to use. you can find a lot on etsy too :)

  • I have a hot sling/slingling that I got with Ali and then never used. You are welcome to it if you want it!
    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • Esp in the newborn stage, I couldn't get a pouch sling to fit right for the baby. Ring slings always put pressure on one shoulder that I hated.

I know it's more complicated, but the Moby was worth every penny for the 1st 6 months of Emily's little life. I felt like her body was supported well, she relaxed well in the chest to chest position and the "both shoulders" support was awesome. And she fit nicely under my peacoat when it was cold outside =P
