I told my OB that I want to attempt a VBAC. On Thursday, she said that I'm starting to measure big again (my son was 9lbs 3oz) and she's scheduled an u/s to get a better estimate. She also scheduled a c-section "just in case" I don't go into labor - 1 week after my due date. I'm also currently breech - but I'm not too concerned since he literally just turned 2 days prior to my appt.
So my question - anyone successful VBAC with a baby 9lbs or bigger?
Re: Big baby VBACs - possible?
I have seen where several people on this board had vbacs with babies that were bigger than the first.
I had my VBAC one month ago and my VBAC baby was 2 pounds and 2 inches larger than my daughter (c-section baby).
At my ICAN meeting, a midwife explained it is actually easier to birth bigger babies because they put additional pressure on the cervix and it is easier for the uterus to "grab" them and squeeze them down. However, doctors get nervous about "big babies."
You can do it!
Yep! He was 2.5 lbs heavier and 2 inches longer than my first, (who ended in a c-section after I pushed for 4+ hours, as he was posterior).
Personally, I'd refuse all growth u/s, but I am (and was) super paranoid about late-term u/s with a low-risk, healthy pregnancy. Your best bet with suspected macrosomia is to make sure you have a provider who is skilled in shoulder dystocia, just in case. And you have every right to ask for non-stress tests past 41 weeks, if you want to go longer than that. Good luck, it's definitely possible!
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
I love midwives
Our VBAC baby was 9 lbs. I would refuse the growth u/s and not consent to scheduling a c/s.
