Rate my consignment sale finds and a ? re: swaddling

I think I did pretty well:

1 pair ON maternity khakis, new w/ tags

1 long sleeve maternity shirt

2 swaddleme blankets

2 crib sheets

3 Halo sleepsacks, 2 fleece 1 regular

1 swaddlesack

Dishwasher basket for bottle parts

Really thick winter outfit for outside... heavy fleece lined w/ hood, footies and mittens

1 bag of 10 connecting rings for carseat toys, etc.

 Total: $49.07

 ______

Now, my biggest question is swaddle blankets/sleepsacks/etc. How long did you use them for? I was trying to look for various sizes... the sleepsacks are good to 18lbs, so I'm thinking those are more late spring/early summer. Thoughts?

  • I never used actual swaddle blankets with either of my girls. They hated them and preferred to be swaddled in either hospital blankets or Aden&Anais blankets. Last night was the first night I didn't swaddle Callie and she will be 4mo on the 30th. She will now use a sleepsack until she starts to really roll in her sleep and then I will stop them. Keira used sleepsacks up until she was about 6mo or so.

You CAN use sleepsacks when they roll over, but it's not recommended because they can get twisted up and prohibit babies from rolling back over. Keira never had problem getting back on her back but I went in a lot to check on her and she was really twisted up in them and I just went to footed sleeper pj's after that.

  • Youd did great for $50! Especially since sleep sacks are like $20 apiece new!

We swaddled for probably about 5-6 mos. We started with the Swaddle-me's, and used those for for the first few months, and were using large flannel blankets that I made at the end. Around that time, she just wouldn't stay swaddled anymore, no matter what we used.

When we stopped swaddling, we moved to sleepsacks. We used them until Holly was just over 1 yr old. The largest size of those that we used was medium.

  • Sounds like some good finds.  E was swaddled up until about 5 months (used the "swaddlemes") - then she was breaking out of them, so we switched to the Halo sleep sacks.  I am sorta embarrassed to admit that she still sleeps in a Halo sleepsack... and she's about to outgrow the XL!  They run about $20 each!  E has always done really well in them (no twisting) and she requests her "blanket" every nap & nighttime.  I don't know what our next step may be!

  • Sounds like you did well! J stayed in the swaddleme's until he was about 6 months old.  Word of caution on the SwaddleMe's - check to make sure the velcro is in good shape. I bought one at consignment & the velcro didn't work well. But sometimes they're in great condition b/c some LO's don't like them.

  • Thanks for the tips! I figure if LO doesn't like them, we'll turn around and sell them... they were $2-4 each, so not bad at all. I was actually very surprised at how not crowded that sale was, there were only about 10 of us in there and there was a good bit of stuff!

  • You did great!  I LOVE my dishwasher basket and I feel like you can't have enough crib sheets.  You'll be surprised at how much you change them. Any maternity stuff you can get a on a deal is awesome.

We swaddled R until 4 months b/c that's when she started sleeping on her tummy.  I used a sleep sack off and on after that.  We used the swaddlemes and Halo brand.

  • What consignment sale were you at? I am looking for somewhere to get LO some clothes.  He's gone through a growth spurt recently and nothing fits!
