I had an "urgent" c/s with DD 15 months ago. I tested positive for Strep B during that pregnancy and will most likey test positive again. I would like to try for a VBAC this pregnancy and with that, would like to labor at home as much as possible. The only thing is, if my water breaks then I would need to get the meds for the strep b asap meaning I would have to go to the hospital..I guess what I'm asking is should I labor at home as long as I can to possibly increase my chance of a VBAC or just go to the hospital once labor begins? Also, with DD I was not aware that I was in labor at all and felt no contractions whatsoever. By the time I got to the hospital (I went because I thought my water may have broken) I was at 5cm and felt nothing until I got to about 9.5cm. So how will I know if I'm in labor this time?
Re: VBAC with a positive strep B test?
Really - you felt nothing?!?! Amazing.
I think you're just going to have to wait and see how things go. Because, if you didn't know you were in labor until your water broke, then it may be the same this time. So, you wouldn't know to go to the hospital any sooner then that anyway.
In terms of VBAC or unaugmented labor chances, you're always better off laboring at home for as long as possible.
In your situation, I would probably want a doula with me at home.
