How do you pronounce this name? Do you say Mag-duh-leen or Mag-duh-lynn?
I really love this name but DH always says no. For now our agreed upon Maggie name is Margaret, but I'm trying to bring him around. What do you think about Magdalene Ann? Magdalena Ann?
What do you think about the Mary Magdalene connection?
I usually go with the Mag-duh-lynn pronunciation.
Edit: I just thought of this. Do you pronounce it differently if you see it as Magdalene or Magdalen.
Re: Magdalene
Neither. I've always heard it Mag-da-len (closer to Mag-da-lyn, I guess), but maybe that's just regional accents coming into play: it's a subtle difference. I've always loved it.
Magdalena, however, is "mag-da-lee-na" unless you're a Spanish speaker, in which case it is Mag-da-lay-na.
I like the Mary Magdalene connection, though it may come across as DaVinci Code-esque at this point...
If I'm talking about Mary Magdalene it's "leen"
As a name I'd probably say "Magdalyn" but it's a very short lyn sound, more like the end of the word "inn" than "lynn".
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
No idea. I've never met anyone with the "e" ending. I prefer Magdalena (Mag-da-leh-nuh or Mag-da-lay-nuh). This was on our list for a while.
I knew a Magdalena that went by "Maggie" as well. Spelled this way, I'd say it "Mag-duh-layne" It's pretty but NMS. Dar Williams sings a really beautiful song called "The Ballad of Mary Magdalene", I love it.
I like Maggie as a nn but I'm not a fan of Margaret. I'd go with Magnolia i/o Margaret for a "Maggie"
I have never thought about it, but I think I use both of those pronunciations personally. As another poster said, it might be a regional thing. I might be more likely to pronounce Magdalen as Mag-duh-len rather than -leen.
I pronounce Magdalene Mag-duh-len. I pronounce Magdalena Mag-duh-lay-na. I love both versions of this name. I love the Mary Magdalene connection, she's my patron saint.
I had a hs teacher with this name who went by Margie. Then one summer she came back to school and insisted on going by Alena.
Both Margaret and Magdalena are on my list.
