This Saturday is our birthing class - it's an all day 8 hr class, complete with a hospital tour and everything. Dh and I are both looking forward to it.
But, on Tuesday I have a 2 hr breastfeeding class. Should I bring DH with me or go by myself? He doesn't think he needs to go - but I've heard it's good to bring them so they can learn about it and know how to be supportive of what you're going through.
Thoughts?
Re: Should my DH go with me?
Your classes sound like my hospitals
I'll be going to my breastfeeding class alone since DH is deployed but if he were here I'd probably insist he went because he has no clue about what it takes to breastfeed/pump/etc and how hard it can be. Your DH may be more supportive he learned the ins and outs.
Just went to part 1 of 2 breastfeeding classes this week. DH did come with me, and he actually jotted down some notes, and was truly interested in what the instructor had to say (so cute!) I would say about half the ladies in that class had their SO with them, one lady who didn't said she was bringing her DH with her next week.
If your DH isn't totally opposed to going, I would take him along - what does he have to lose? (I should mention that our childbirth classes haven't started yet, so my DH could easily get sick of all the classes quickly, but so far so good.) If he can't go, I don't think it would be a hardship on you or anything - its just nice for both of you to hear the same advice at the same time.

It was an evening class which is hard for my DH b/c he gets up at 5:30 AM for work. We just went to an evening baby care class last week and he was beat when we got home. Then there's an evening infant CPR class coming up which I really, REALLY want him to go to, so I told him "OK, skip the BF, but you should be at CPR". pick your battles, KWIM?
DH was permitted to be absent because he attended the newborn care and birthing classes... That said, I felt like a lonely gal in the BFing class because everyone had a significant other with them.
I do believe that DH would gain more understanding and perhaps as a result be more compassionate and supportive as we begin the BFing process, but it just didn't happen.
It's not a matter of picking my battles. I just figured that since we're a team and we'll be raising this little girl together, he might like to be a part of it.
He and I are already both certified in CPR, so we won't be taking a CPR class. I just wanted him there for moral support. Sorry if I made it seem like this was the end all be all, it's not.
We talked it over and he said that he'd go. So, I'm happy about that!
