Is DD doing the 'norm'? Or are we screwed?

It's so hard for me to not compare my son's infant sleep to DD's current sleep... it's just what parents DO, I guess, when they have an older child. My son went 7 hours at 7 week, and 8 at 8 wks.. and was doing 10 hour nights by like 4 months. We really had no idea how AWESOME this was. Now, we do!

DD does mostly 4-5 hours at a time. She is ebf, whereas our son had nighttime formula (seriously considering this for DD!).. so that might be a diff. I know each baby's version of normal is different.. but would you say her 4-5 hour stretches (followed by 2-3 hour stretches) are 'normal'? Or do you think she'll likely just be not as great a sleeper as DS?

I'm tired.

Very normal. The average at 3 months is only a 4-5 hour stretch for both FF and BF babies. You just don't hear about it as much because no one's celebrating having to wake up 2-3 times a night. :)

  • We are currently on the 4 hour and then every 2-3 hour plan also. I think u are right saying no one says anything when their child isn't sleeping through the night. I keep telling myself I will sleep one day,
  • Sounds normal to me.

  • That's our normal- a 4-5 hour stretch followed by 2 3ish hour stretches. I'm not bragging about it to anybody, but I know that it's okay. ;)

  • That's our normal. But I also think every baby is different, even siblings. My mom swears I didn't STTN until almost age 1 while my little sister started at 4 months. And we were both EBF.

  • That sounds pretty normal. DS usually goes 5 hours, followed by another 4-5 hour stretch. The second stretch just got longer within the last week or so. He actually tends to wake up about 3 hours after his middle of the night feeding, but he never cries (just fusses/talks to himself for a few minutes) and is able to go back to sleep for another hour or two if I leave him alone.

  • Both my kiddos are (were) EBF and they slept very differently.  Drew slept like your DD is sleeping now and Lizzy is sleeping more like your DS did!  So we're the opposite of your situation!  I don't think it has anything to do with what they are eating - each kid is just unique.

  • Very normal and don't think that FF babies aren't up in the middle of the night either.

My son was a crappy sleeper and DD is so much better and they're being fed the same way.  Every kid is different.

  • This sounds normal to me, but since we bedshare, I honestly don't remember being awake to nurse most of the time. I just do it then fall back asleep.

This!  It's sad, but I honestly don't remember how many times I've been up once morning comes.  I just know that I'm well-rested and so is my LO.  She's never kept me up for more than 15 min (and I know how lucky I am).
