I'm so envious of all the posts I see about your LO's STTN. My DS is 9wks and still feeding (EBF) every 3h around the clock. Anything I can do to get him to STTN or do I just have to let him do it on his own?
I nurse and pump and I don't usually force LO to stay awake when he's nursing- if he falls asleep I put him down but when he's getting a bottle I will jiggle it so he keeps eating.
I have no idea how much he eats when he nurses, but when he takes the 3-4oz bottle before bed he'll usually go 5 or so hours versus the 3 or so when he nurses.
I figure there's a correlation there, but it's not consistent enough for me to always give him a bottle... so take what you will from all that.
There's really not a proven way to get a baby to STTN. You probably hate to hear this, but I know some women whose toddlers didn't STTN. I would recommend starting a routine (if you don't have one now) with an early bedtime; DD has been sleeping better since we started putting her down around 7:30 or 8.

I agree, it was about 2 weeks of a steady feed, bath, read, put to bed routine at the same time every night before DD started sleeping more then 3 hours at a time. In my theory, her body started recognizing this sleep time as different from the rest (when she would wake up in the night, I would feed her in the dark and lay her right back in her crib when she was done, no rocking or extended cuddling, etc) Now, she'll sleep 10-6 or 7. We're just now starting to move up her bed time because she seems to get very cranky/sleepy around 8:30-9 every night.
Hang in there! DS got better and better with sleeping as time went on. I felt like month 4 is where we started to see longer stretches and he has been STTN since 5 months and now does the STTN my way...11 hrs.
With my DD #1, I was in the same boat as you, but worse. She ate every 1.5 and was BF. I don't think she STTN until around 18 months. Now after having DD #2, I am a FIRM believer that a baby will STTN when he/she is ready. Every child is different - keep that in mind. My current DD, from birth, has been sleeping longer and longer stretches. She now sleeps anywhere from 7-8.5 hours. There is nothing special I do - it's just her. Hang in there - it will eventually happen.

I think it's kind of hit or miss with us. He usually gives me one 4 hour stretch and has since he was a month old. However some nights (like last night) he will give me a 6 hour stretch, which I think most consider STTN. from 12:30-6:30 and I was pretty happy with that

Our Pedi told us at 12lbs the babies are physically able to sleep for an 8 hr stretch. she said to encourage this by trying to cluster feed before bedtime and to use a paci to stretch the nightime feedings by a little each night. Right now we're getting a 6-7 hr stretch. We ebf too but my babies were quite small at birth and they're still under 12 lbs.
Re: Help, when will LO STTN?
My first was 18 months old before she slept through the night.
Avery will sleep longer stretches and always has.
I think it's just all the baby and their personality.
I know that milk supply changes as babies age, I think that helps them to go longer stretches at night. I'm not positive.
I hope you get some long stretches of sleep soon!!

Glad I'm not the only one!
LO started sleeping through the night around 2 months.
We have a summer swaddler thing with velcro and that has really helped a lot with her sleeping.
Plus she eats all of her recommended ounces (2.5 x weight) during the day, so she has no need to wake up at night.
All babies are different though, and will STTN when they are ready!
