February 2012 Moms

Nausea meds: What are you taking and is it helping?

I am nauseaus all day long. I was the same way with my previous 2 pregnancies. My OB gave me an rx for Reglan, but I haven't tried it yet. With my other pregnancies, I was able to power through without meds, but I don't know if I can do that again. The nausea is really slowing me down and I feel guilty for my kids and MH since I am just not pleasant to be around these days.

Anyway, I was just curious what others are taking and what's helped and what hasn't. TIA!

  • Ugh, Nausea. At ten weeks along, I still haven't kicked it entirely. My OBGYN put me on generic Zofran right around 6 weeks. At first, it was a-mazing. Now that I've been on it for a few weeks, I'm not so convinced. Although I have been taking it less, it's still super nice to have. It's my first pregnancy and having all this nausea was NOT what I expected. Thank goodness for nausea meds! Here's hoping we feel better soon :)

  • I have hyperpermesis, I was put on the disolveable zofran starting at 7 weeks and now I have to combine Reglan when it gets really bad. I already had to go into the ER once for being dehydrated. Just be aware that once you get dehydrated its tough to get out of it unless without medical help cause it will make your nausious worse.

  • I take 50mg of B6 in the am and 50mg of B6 paired with one half of a Unisom before bed. It took several days to start working, but it's helped.

  • I was put on the generic zofran (4mg) every six hours for nausea, and like a pp- it was a godsend for the first few weeks. Now that I've been on it for a while, I swear, it doesn't seem as effective. Sort of hit or miss when I take it... but my nausea is also subsiding a little (thank god!) so hopefully I will be off of it altogether soon.

  • I went on Zofran at about week 6, but it gave me such horrible constipation that I stopped about 2 weeks later. I'm having a hard time drinking water and I live in Arizona, so dehydration was probably a factor in the constipation as well. Weeks 8 & 9 were bad - lots of nausea, fatigue - like a flu. Week 10 got a little better, and now in week 11 I'm doing okay, still nauseous sometimes but a little more energy, plus I haven't thrown up in 8 days!

  • I'm on Zofran, which works pretty well but the side effects of constipation suck.  But you gotta weigh the good with the bad with that...I'd rather be stopped up than throwing up!

  • I am on the generic form of zofran as well, and like some pp said, the first few weeks it was GREAT, and then it sort of was hit or miss.  Sometimes I will still throw up, but I think it is more my fault because I will get up on an empty stomach or I'll wait too long in between meals.  If I can keep my stomach pretty full throughout the day, I do fine.  Yesterday I had a great day!  I think I am nearing the end of my m/s so hopefully I will be done with the pills.  I am going to refill the RX just to have on hand.

  • I am so happy to hear that others are also questioning whether the zofran works after a while. I thought it was just me.

I don't know what I would do without the Feb 2012 board! It is SO nice to talk to others that are on this journey too. Big Smile
