High-Risk Pregnancy

thalassemia and pregnancy

Hello all-

I'm 15 weeks along, and my doctor has decided to send me to a specialist because I have thalassemia. She says it's somewhat uncommon and isn't sure what we need to do about it, if anything. I was just wondering if anyone else has this and how it's affected your pregnancy.

Thanks.

  • My husband has thalassemia minor and so do most of his cousins.  As far as I know none of his girl cousins had any effects from it during pregnancy.  There really is nothing they can do for it.  It can be dangerous for the baby if your husband also has thalassemia minor because then the baby could have thalassemia major and that is a lot worse.
