Austin Babies

Seton SW

So I am going to deliver at Seton SW some time at the end of December (or maybe January, who knows?) and was wondering if some of you had their babies there, too? How was your experience?

I registered for the childbirth class which includes a hospital tour, so I am looking forward to seeing everything then, but that's only in October. Of course I checked out their website, but thought that some "real life" experiences would be nice to hear.

TIA!

Re: Seton SW

  • I did and I LOVED it. The nurses are all wonderful. It's small and quiet--only 6 L&D/PP rooms. I really liked that the room you labored in was your room till you checked out. The only two negatives for me--no cafeteria for DH or visitors (minor) and no NICU. If I were having a baby with special needs or high order multiples I might rethink my choice and deliver somewhere else. If your baby needs special attention s/he will be transferred to Seton Central.

Thank you, that sounds great! I'll make sure to let MH know about the no cafeteria thing, that's very good to know. I like to hear that it's small and quiet.

Do you know if they have breast pump rental available? I thought about doing it for the first month or so until I see if I actually can nurse/pump.

  • I'm not sure. I had my own, so I didn't ask. And their usual LC was on vacation, so I don't have any experience with her either. As far as the food, there's quite a few places close by and the nurses had a handy binder full of menus as well as a list of who delivered. In the end the lack of a cafeteria wasn't that big of a deal.

  • I delivered at Seton SW and had a wonderful experience. The nurses were great and we didn't find the lack of a cafeteria to be a problem at all.
  • All three of our babies were born there and we have a wonderful experience all three times!! Not one complaint! We had a high risk situation (HELLP syndrome) with our first and everything was just fine. Our second and third were born within 40 minutes of our arrival--perfection! The nursing staff is wonderful!! I don't think you can do any better anywhere else.

FWIW: DH dislikes hospitals immensely and he felt like SSW was more like a hotel than a hospital.

We had the LC for all three and she is great but very opinionated so you may have to take what she says with a grain of salt. I don't know anything about pump rentals.

I hope your experience is our good as ours if not better :)

Oh wow, thank you so much for your feedback and sharing your experiences! This really makes me feel comfortable with our choice. It sounds like they are doing a great job there and I am actually kind of looking forward to it now. Smile
