After two nights of sleeping 8-4:30/5:30ish and then going back to sleep for 3 more hours, DS was up every hour or 2 last night!
Yesterday afternoon he wouldn't nap. He was awake from 1:30-4:30 and I could not get him to sleep no matter what I did...so I took him for a ride in the car (I was at my wits end!) and he was out for 20 min and up until bed time. I've heard that lack of napping can impact sleep at night. What's the reasoning behind this? I feel like I need something to blame his awful night on!

4 month wakeful? https://www.kellymom.com/parenting/sleep/4mo-sleep.html
I'm sorry you're having a tough time! DD went through hers at 3.5 months and it was hard but it only lasted a week...unless it comes back. Who knows!
Sounds like my life...I too think it's the 4 month wakeful. She has now started to nap for a long time in the afternoon after not napping at all and still keeping me up at night wanting to eat. She will also only sleep on our bed and if I try to move her she wakes up. I have to sit here and watch her while she naps...
Good luck and as the other ladies said it will pass. :::passes out from exhaustion/1000 degree weather:::
The only problem is... I thought we already WENT through this! He was waking 3-4 times a night for 2 weeks and then stopped. He's been sleeping 8-2:30 or 3:30 for 2 weeks now...and then blessed us with the 4:30-5:30ish wake ups for 2 nights in a row.
I was hoping it was his horrible napping yesterday...ugh, back to square 1!
I know not everyone agrees with co-sleeping, but it really is helpful when LO's wake up more often than usual. If DD wakes more than twice in a night I just bring her into bed on the 3rd wake.
Less sleep during the day just seems to lead to over exhaustion at night which increases fussiness and their ability to get to a deep sleep.
