XP which item to buy?

A group of girls and I are great friends. One is currently pregnant and her shower is coming up. We are all going in on a bigger gift. I am the buyer so I get to choose. My debate is between her video monitor (a life saver for me and something I don't know anyone else would buy), her car seat (an obvious must have and I can get a few other smaller items), or her bedding (not my fave since I now know other things are more needed but I know she likes it). Vote away and give me some pros and/or cons too! Thanks!

I'd get the car seat and load her up on "must haves" that new moms are unaware they need (saline drops, mylecon, breast pads, etc.)

We have an angelcare and since he's still sleeping in our room in his PNP, he hasn't used the sensor part of it. We do use the sound on it every night - but if the tv wasn't on we'd hear him without it. I vote for the car seat; but it depends on how big her house is. I think the seat is a safer gift too - since you know she wants it!

I would do like PP suggested, get the carseat and the unknown must haves. The way I see it, if no one buys her the monitor, she can always buy a super cheap one on her own, but she can't really skimp on the carseat so I'd make sure she gets that instead.

I would buy the carseat and items that go along with it: a mirror if you think she'll use it, hanging toys (these save my life and prevent screaming in the carseat)... I like to have a theme to gifts. What other must haves were you thinking?

Carseat for the same reasons listed above. We never use my DS's monitor either.

I think I'll be odd man out. I'd go with the monitor. We don't have a video monitor but I wish we did. Since it isn't a must have, DH doesn't see the point in spending that kind of money. (I do see his point.) I would have rather someone bought the monitor and then we would buy the carseat. We don't feel bad spending a lot of money on a must have but we do think twice (and three times etc.) about expensive non-needed items.

Car seat. I thought I wanted a video moniter but DH wouldn't let me spend that much money, so now we have a simple sound moniter and I don't know why I thought I needed video. Also I think bedding sets are dumb. If you'd like to add more to the car seat, do as pp said and get some of the post-pg essentials.

I love my video monitor, I vote that!!

It is a splurge a bit, but I think its worth my night time sanity. My little one makes lots of noise in his sleep and love that if I hear noises and I can see that he is just shifting but still asleep or if he is awake.
