Anyone been through this? DS was diagnosed last night. We went to the ER because of his labored breathing. Turns out he was breathing like that because his throat hurts. We will followup with pediatrician tomorrow.
Did you give anything for pain? The doctor prescribed Lortab and I am uncomfortable giving that to L.
Re: Hand, Foot and Mouth :/
It was the worst sore throat I have ever had in my life! Painful to even swallow my own spit much less anything else.
Fortunately, DD didn't act like she was overly bothered with it. My pedi basically told me that he didn't care if she didn't eat a thing for the next few days, but make certain that she was drinking. Even if we had to use a syringe. We were lucky that despite the sores in her throat, she drank fluids just fine.
I gave her Motrin if her fever got too high and/or she seemed like she was hurting. She was too young at the time to tell me if she was in pain.
my DD had it a month ago and just got it again!!! GRR!!! more mild this time but both times she went days without eating, or eating only a little yogurt or applesauce. the fever was low, but she was always in so much pain, we had to alternate tylenol and motrin constantly for a few days. at the peak, there was a night or two of AWFUL sleep.
it depends how severe it is though, cuz she gave it to me this time and i have it right now. i only have a few bumps on hands/feet and 1-2 in my mouth so i'm okay. a little tired but no fever or sore throat. but those few bumps REALLY HURT! i can barely walk on one foot cuz of four stupid bumps on my toes, it's amazing how much they hurt. i would say don't hesitate to medicate (safely, per doctor's directions). it's miserable. i dont know that medication you listed, most stuff you google says to just use plain old painkillers. but your LO is much younger than mine too (mine is 2.5 yrs).
if he is nursing it can be very painful for them to suck. try pumping and offering with a cup or syringe. they need to stay hydrated. no citrus or anything that might sting inside the mouth. we use a humidifier in her room to keep the air super moist too. GOOD LUCK!
