Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Scary Day

My mom is my day care provider and yesterday she took my boys to piano lessons like she does every Wednesday.  The piano teacher's cat had just had kittens so everyone went to look at the kittens down stairs.  My mom missed the last step and fell to the ground, dropping Ladybug in the process.  They both fell forward and mom landed on her hand and elbow above ladybug.  Ladybug landed on her face and chest on the floor which was carpet over concrete.  After a 3 hour ER trip during which Ladybug wouldn?t stop screaming, we find out supposedly Ladybug is just really sore and has a few bruises. We are keeping a close eye on her left leg as she is favoring it.  Due to the stressful day, ladybug fell asleep early (about 3) and woke up about 12:30am fussy, and wouldn?t go back to sleep.    Mom is ok, bruised on her arms and knees and just feels horrible.  I am still shaking a day later and am exhausted.  My poor ladybug!

  • Oh my goodness, I am sorry. That is awful. Your poor little babe, and your poor mom! I am sure she feels terrible. I hope your little girl starts feeling better and it indeed is just a few bruises. Hugs mama.

  • That is so scary!

I won't carry Ellie down our basement stairs to put the dogs to bed at night or while I do laundry for fear of this. Not saying your mom shouldn't have been carrying her, stairs aren't an option for everyone. I just don't do it at home because I can avoid it and I've fallen before.

  • Thanks ladies.  We are keeping an eye on ladybugs leg and if it still bothers her tomorrow, the Dr wants to see her back.  Heifer- I agree, most of the houses around here are split levels and I cant count the number of times I have ended up sliding on my butt down the stairs.  Thankfully there was only two steps, so missing the second didnt mean they fell down a flight of stairs.  And I can guarantee my mom will have Ladybug in her car seat for the stairs until she out grows it.
  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry!  I hope both your mom and DD feel better soon.

I live on the 3rd floor and have to walk down the stairs every morning.  It's so scary sometimes because I am usually carrying other stuff (diaper bag, purse, etc).  I refuse to carry him without the car seat I don't even like carrying him with without the car seat UP the stairs!

    ((hugs))

  • Oh my! I hope they both feel better soon!

It is so scary... I try to be extra careful when carrying LO, but stuff does happen. I have definitely had my own share of spills (not while carrying him) - the IL's stairs are the ones that I worry about the most... they are crazy steep.
