Sort of BR - tipping a babysitter

I will need someone to watch DD during my sister's backyard wedding in a few weeks. Since everyone I'd normally ask will be attending the wedding, I was thinking of asking my very mature and responsible 17 year old neighbor to help. She'd also need to keep an eye the host's dog who would be in the house during the wedding, though she won't have to do much with the dog. I'll be just outside for the reception and will be popping in on occasion to feed DD. What should I offer my neighbor to watch a newborn and a dog for a few hours? I'm not sure what's reasonable these days. Thanks!

Re: Sort of BR - tipping a babysitter

  • Sitters in our area typically ask for $10/hr, I would offer that.  Then if she does, say, 2.5 hours or something I'd round up and give her $30.  That's what we do, anyway.  We also leave money for pizza or something to be delivered, but if it's a wedding I'm assuming there would be plenty of food for her there- just be sure to offer food and drinks.

  • agree with previous post. 10 dollars an hour is a good offer for someone her age. Also agree with the rounding up and leaving money for food.
