First Night Out

Tonight I'm going out to dinner to the Melting Pot with my best friend and leaving DD with DH for the first time.  Part of me is nervous, but the other part is screaming with joy that I'm finally going out by myself!  I hope my nervous side doesn't hinder me from having a good time tonight!

Has anyone been out yet without DH or DC?

We went out for our anniversary dinner back in May and left Andrew with my mother-in-law. It was great to get out for a nice dinner that I didn't feel like I had to eat as fast as possible so I could tend to the baby. I was happy to get home and see him at the end of the night, though.

Have fun on your girls night out!

DH and I have been out twice and left Mel with my mom, but this is the first time I'm leaving DH alone with her.  I think I'm more nervous about DH then I am for leaving DD.

  • I was nervous the first time only because we had only tested him on a bottle once so I was nervous he wouldn't take a bottle. But he did and everything was fine. As far as DH taking care of him...he is his father and just as capable as taking care of him as I am. I'm not nervous about that. I've left DS a number of times. I'm always happy to get home to my snuggly baby, but as a SAHM look forward to getting out of the house without him.

  • I know DH is very capable of taking care of DD, I guess I'm just being a nervous mommy. Embarrassed

  • I have left LO quite a few times with DH to run errands, get pedicures, and last week to have dinner with friends. DH will be staying home with LO 2x a week when I return to work in August. I have no qualms leaving LO with his Daddy.

Yup, lots of times. DH isn't someone who considers watching DS babysitting, so I often go out for a few hours without them. It's much more difficult for me and DH to go out without DS!

The first time I left him with DH so I could meet a friend for a pedi I got a picture of him after a bath. Major poo explosion that required some tub time.  Made me realize that DH could handle him just fine  :)

I completely understand wher eyou are coming from.  While I completely trust DH and know he is LO's father, he is just not quite as comfortable with DD at this stage as I am.  At first he was not really able to soothe her no matter how hard he tried, so she just cried all the time when she was left alone with him.  She also rejected the bottle for the first 3 months.  So I was definitely nervous when I left her with him.  However, the more times I have done it, he has developed his own soothing strategies and they have their own little routine, so I now feel much more comfortable.  But I wanted you to know that I completely understand where you are coming from!

  • My husband has her every day when I'm at work since he works nights, so he's getting to be a pro.  I'm sure your husband will do great! Have fun!

  • Yes!  I went out for the first time without DD when she was five weeks, six days old. Since then, I've been out alone with my friends three more times and with DH twice (with MIL babysitting.)

I also leave her with him for an hour every weekend morning to go running.  (Of course, she's also in daycare, so I do have some alone time everyday now.)

    It's heaven!  Have fun tonight.

Thank you!  I couldn't find the right words to explain how I felt, but this is it exactly!

  • I understand your anxiety 100%.  DH spends about 2-3 hours alone with the baby every night before I get home and does fine.  However I feel very differently leaving the two of them alone later in the evening, because LO behaves differently.  When he gets tired he can become fussy and DH has a very difficult time soothing him. In fact LO was with my parents late one night and my mom even had a hard time soothing him.  So I do understand your anxiety.  But you have to start somewhere and sometime.  Your DH will become more comfortable the more often he is given the opportunity to be alone with LO.  Good luck and enjoy your evening!
