I have one of "those" questions

I was going to ask this elsewhere but since you all have c/s scars - and I think that might be part of the reason for this - I'm going to ask here instead.

So I've definitely had waaaay more BH contrax - with and without lower back pain/tension this time compared to last time. I know some of that is just b/c it's a second pregnancy.

But over the last couple of days they've occasionally been in the form of cramps that literally stopped me in my tracks. I was trying to get G dressed for bed and had to have DH take over while I sat on the floor and waited for it to pass.

It didn't happen regularly enough to call the doc (she wants a call if I have more than 4 BH/hour) but I've had sporadic occurrences similar to that. DH made me swear up and down that I would mention it to her this afternoon at my appt, but in the meantime, what say you? Normal? Not?

Re: I have one of "those" questions

  • Sorry, I have no experience with this, but I agree with your DH that you should ask the doctor.  I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with a previous C/S, but maybe preterm labor?

  • I don't know that it would have anything to do with a previous c/s, I'm trying to rationalize it so as not to freak myself out too much.  The good thing is they haven't been regular.

I had been having some regular BH's so she checked me 2 weeks ago at my last appt, and at that point I hadn't dilated or anything, so there's that at least. It wouldn't surprise me if she decides she wants to check me again after telling her that though...

  • Did you ever have contractions in your first pregnancy?  It sounds like you might be having some.  I think if they aren't regular, it's probably ok.  I don't know if it has anything to do with a prior cesarean, but I agree you should mention it today at your appt.

  • I barely had any contractions when I was on pitocin let alone before term last time! They seriously had to tell me when I had contractions on the monitor, I hardly noticed them otherwise.  This was a whole new world of OW for me.

  • I agree with pps that it doesn't sound like it has to do with the c/s scar but that you are having real contractions.  I think I had more BH the second time around just because I was also lugging around a very big 2 year old on top of the pregnancy.  Good luck with your appointment!

  • With my pregnancy, I was having contractions all the time from 35 weeks on, I had really long prodromal labor.  So to me, it sounds normal.  I remember laying in bed one night having contractions every 2 minutes for about 3 hours.

But I would still discuss it with your dr.

  • Update:  She did another internal and no progress so it didn't do anything. She also basically said to call her next time if it doesn't go away.

ETA: Also, thanks everyone for the input!

  • I know you already talked to your doc, but just wanted to chime in. I had contractions just like what you're describing from about 35/36 wks with Ari. Most were like "I kinda feel something", but many were like you're describing - strong enough to make me stop what I was doing. So yeah, totally normal.
